I should have known better but I keep giving this board the benefit of the doubt.
So while it's intellectually beneath me to even have to explain this, here goes...

1. There's no agenda here with this thread. I didn't make the thread about the history of the bar exam in South Carolina, then made this thread to see which thread would get the most activity. They were each threads of general interest, both highlighting American ignorance to one degree or another.

2. The whole point behind my comment about this thread getting the puters puting is to expose how some of you are constantly looking for something to be offended about. I didn't EXPECT one thread to attract more traffic than another, but some of you are seemingly highly triggered by the imagined inference that you SHOULD care about the holocaust even though you're not a jew (or one of the other minorities who were murdered). That said, if you're going to get on your high horse and claim you shouldn't give a shyt about the holocaust because they weren't black, then by that logic it would make sense that you WOULD give a shyt about the thread about black history. And you weren't.

3. The Statista page in the OP said NOTHING about whether Black Americans could name a concentration camp during the holocaust. It was merely Americans. So getting all defensive about "why should I care about this" doesn't even make sense from that standpoint...and that's the leg most of you are standing on.

It's weird.
And makes zero sense.

😘

So you admit in the bolded that you are trolling. You think you are more intelligent than everyone else, but your own words betray your actions. How can you be that far removed intellectually from everyone else, when you can't even create an explaination that does not contradict itself?

Yeah I don't think you really know what trolling is.

With the rise of the far right globally, it's better that the average person has credible knowledge of atrocities so that a person in the everyday can refute "fascism isn't that bad really" arguments that are pushed daily online and seeped heavily into real life.

That isn't to say you have to list Auschwitz and Treblinka and Dachau, but the knowledge needs retaining so that future understanding of it doesn't descend into 4cac handwaving and lame nazi puns
The knowledge is retained in physical and digital forms. At the moment, there is easy access to the knowledge, and the storytelling of the Jews will make sure some of it will be retained.

So really, this idea that everyone needs to remember it is nonsensical. Everyone trying to remember everything is not possible, nor has it ever been possible. That is why you designate people whose job it is to remember, who are btw called Historians.

Only one I know of is Auschwitz and honestly I don’t give a damn about knowing the names of the others. That’s not to minimize the impact of the holocaust or WW2 in general but specific camp names is information that isn’t useful to the everyday person.

The only three I can name off the top of my head are Auschwitz, Bergen-Belson, and Daucau(sp?). It really is irrelevant to most people's daily lives though tbh. I wouldn't expect Jews in Israel to know about the Black Wall Street massacre or Emmitt Till. It isn't relevant to their daily lives or their history.

i dunno why the name of the camps is important as long as you know the when and why
Well, it's kinda like how there's a difference between "violence in the middle east" and "ethnic cleansing in Gaza"

Specifics kind of matter a little, even if....I'm learning here....it doesn't to a big part of the coli.

The truth is that people only seek to have knowledge of the things they care about, picking and choosing which information is important to them to keep in their memory.

Outside of racists, Neo-Nazis, and Hitler sympathizers, I would assume that the average American doesn't care about Nazi Germany that much to have immediate knowledge of concentration camps and let alone the people running the camps, notable officers of Hitler's army personnel, and notable medical/research staff members personnel during his reign.

It's a good doc, but it might have gained more traction if they promoted it more as a Ken Burns thing...which he did work on.
