A great number of Haitians expressed their irritation about the arrival of the U.S. Ambassador Kelly Craft into Haiti on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
Groups began gathering in various points of the capital even before the arrival of the ambassador into Haiti. One group that which attempted to establish a sit-in adjacent the airport on Maïs-Gâté Avenue were beaten by BLTS police officers to disperse.
The credibility of the United States in Haiti is significantly damaged and despite the diplomat's stated reason for arriving, "to emphasize the support of the United States for a more peaceful, safer, more prosperous and more democratic future for the Haitian people" Haitians remained critical.
Several roads were blocked with barricades of burning tires, tree trunks, large stones and other objects. Maïs-Gâté Avenue, passing on the road to the airport, the situation was tense, despite the presence of law enforcement on October 15 Boulevard.
A few dozen protesters gathered near Hugo Chavez square near Toussaint Louverture International Airport, hoping to get to the US embassy in Tabarre. Their goal: "Tell the Americans that Haitians have reached an agreement on the post-Jovenel Moïse."
