Closer to Me is the one. They sampled that Goapele track very well shyt gave a nikka chills how it crept in. Favorite track off the album so far.

It does matter, being an artist is all about authenticity.

Still.
Not true. How does getting help reduce authenticity?

People make songs inspired by other people and their problems every day.

Getting help to write love/relationship music is fine.

Yall oldheads really let the 90s rappers gas yall.

H.E.R. is really dope and has been for a minute. She's the real deal.

But the album is too long. She would've been good with going with 1/2 of it, but the label is trying to double the streams. The tracks that she's done with Camper and a couple others, are the ones that keep her where she's best. In her own lane. But RCA definitely threw her a few generic joints that sound like that same beat everyone else seems to be using now, same pattern, same vibe, etc. They also have her using their own writers now, which kinda takes away from everything she was trying to be about when she first dropped. But it's more money in their pockets, so it's to be expected. They're throwing their own writers and artists on her album.

Creatively, the album is a typical project, kinda built more so from a corporate sense. 4-5 writers on each song, most of whom are in-house writers who shop songs to the whole roster or the label just kinda tells you what to record and which songs to use from the writers. It's kinda wack to see her having to go through that now. It kills the authenticity. She's too dope for that. But she still has some really dope shyt on this one.

not even people who made their living as songwriters wrote everything solo. why are you frontin? she writes a lot but has always had collaborators and like most r&b stars, will take on pre-written work.

Of course but it would be better if she actually did write majority of her stuff along with others. But she is talented nothing less.
