He hasn't officially retired yet, he's just taking a leave of absence to get away from the sport. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to come back late next year.

It's a telling move on his part though - I think he knew deep down inside that he couldn't beat Johny otherwise he would rematch him to silence the critics.

i watched the fight and he beat carlos condit. hed also make hendricks his bytch unlike gsp. :umad:
Diaz matches up quite well with Hendricks. In a 5 round fight, Diaz would dominate the championship rounds.

Not mad at that, should be a good fight. The funny thing is that it wouldn't shock me if Robbie won. Crazy to think about when it wasn't that long ago that he was losing fights in Strikeforce as a MW. Since coming back to the UFC he has looked really good, has good TDD and hits really hard. Dana also said he is working on lining up a fight for Condit as well.
if lawler does win, his first defense should be against Shields (if he wins his fight). He dominated Lawler in their MW fight. But Dana will probably have the winner fight Condit, for excitement purposes. and i can't hate on that.

one of the goats...easily the best ww of all-time. rarely do we get to see the greats go out on top. good for him.

although i hate to see him retire, it certainly makes the ww division much more interesting. with gsp out of the picture, that belt becomes attainable for a lot more guys.
yup, and GSP's return fight in Montreal will do record numbers. This is not THAT big a of a blow to the UFC.

he's one of the biggest names in the sport and if i remember correctly, he's the ufc's best ppv draw. so him bowing out obviously isn't gonna kill them but it's gotta hurt a bit.

but yeah, that fight would be massive. gsp knows the big money will be there if he ever wants to come back...and i'm sure dana will constantly be in his ear reminding him about that.

Lawler got his silly ass knocked out by Diaz, I wish it were Hendrick vs Diaz.

Let Lawler fight Condit, Diaz beat his ass too.

and thank god GSSleep is retiring. It's about time, that point fighter was boring and hogging up the WW division. Now we can get some real fights crackin.

Bendo is gone, now GSP, its a like a dream come true, nothing but exciting champs now.

Good for him. He shouldn't be forced to fight if his heart isn't in it anymore, vacating the title is a good look so Hendricks vs Lawler is the perfect fight to crown a new champion.

doesnt deserve a title fight yet; he's won 3 in a row at WW, but against Koschcek (:what:), Voelker (:wtf:), and MacDonald (:ehh:); still dont get why lawler is ranked 3rd :snoop:

Koscheck was top 10 when they fought. MacDonald was ranked 3. Who else would deserve it more than him?

GSP might not be the most exciting fighter, but he's right up there with Anderson and Fedor as one of the best. GSP was a great person, a great ambassador for the sport, was humble/professional, carried himself with integrity, and was overall, a great champion/role model. It's truly sad to see him go, but I'm also glad to see leave on top and on his own terms. As others have said, fighters tend to stick around too long, it's good to see somebody like GSP leave the sport at the right time.

Him leaving is a pretty big blow to the UFC, he's quite easily the biggest draw in MMA.

He did leave hope for a potential comeback, but I really believe that GSP is retiring for good. I wish him the best and hope that one day we do actually see him once again step into the octagon.
