It's a couple days old but I just saw this mock this morning. Not sure how I feel about Jones. He's not that athletic and he's probably not an upgrade over Ramon. He'll get cooked defensively, too.

At that point in the draft, I'd rather roll the dice on a stretch 4 or wing, unless there's a no-brainer BPA on the board.

I agree with the need for a stretch 4. Really like Portis, hope he's there.

I really think we need a shot blocker too, our best shot blockers are Wall and Beal

Still can't forgive Grunfeld for not getting Nerlens Noel. Otto showed promise, but Noel is exactly what we need. Wall would have youngin lookin like Deandre Jordan out there.

Nah dude. Nerlen can be physically tossed around. Plus he has such a limited offensive game. Defensively since college his metric for steals and blocks have been good but he has obvious goals in his game. Porter you can tell there are less holes. His body type is same as noels but he can grow bigger better. And physicality isn't as important on the wings.
He has elite height and length for a small forward. Go look at the who's who's of small forwards and porters measureables are up there. Plus he's smart. He already rebounds the hell out of the ball while he's skinny. Imagine if he gets stronger. He'll be for his position upper echelon rebounder. He's weak so I think guys like cj Watson who are physically mature can dominate him but this will cease us he gets stronger.
He needs to get stronger, he needs to get his legs under him so he can play O and D same way tmac and Paul george did. He needs to work on his offense so he can be a menace there. I believe as a project porter can get in the paul george, kawhi range of type of player. He's shown he will be good even if he doesn't get there. He's shown he has few holes which is important. Nerlen has and always will have holes. He will never kill you offensively and you can put a physical player like randolph posting him and he will be dominated.

Robert Upshaw I watched him play. Better jumpshot than I thought. His drug issues are real though. I thought weed but who'd get kicked out for that. On youtube and other sites though kids who knew him were posting stories of his drug use. Eg one said Upshaw tutored one in some sort of way then used the money to go buy drugs. Another said in a party he saw Upshaw put coke, weed and shrooms in a bong and Inhale it all in one go.

He's working out at img or p3. Says he's been taking time out to get his life together. But at the same time had said he'd been there a month but that was his first day. He was out of game shape.

Wizards have interviewed him. If we do get him his drug use is real. He managed to put up massive numbers in college despite that. His fundamentals especially in the post and rebounding need work and his endurance and body strength need work. I think if you take him and just work on his fundamentals and endurance he can be phenomenal because he's accomplishing so much without those while still being a druggie. But if he still does drugs it won't be worth the headache. Talent wise he's the one to pick. He's the steal.

The other guys I like are Cameron Payne. I think he'll become good and I think he's out to prove something so wants to keep improving. But he's climbing up the charts now slated at 14 in dx. There's a competitive mean streak in him. He wants to be great and I can see he'll be a solid starter.

Portis I like as well. His playing angry will fit in with the team . it'll fit in with beal and also will motivate porter who needs to play angry. Portis says he models his whole thing after kg.

Myles Turner I like he's proactive about his gait. I watched his match up against Kentucky and was like Meh. Defensively he's not good. He's just flat footed. Not as aware as I thought he should be.

James anderson can be like Danny green. He has some physicality to him too. Very good stroke. I think detail oriented in what went into his shooting. He'll make a solid starter. Not a good rebounder so he's a sg slot guy for me.

Looney I want to see with his frame what he brings that porter doesn't. I also want to look at the wing defenders more like RHJ. Late first guys like Christian wood, second round potential steals like Richaun Holmes

I hear you, just watching Otto at G'town and with the Wiz so far I just don't think he will be an impact player.

I agree with what you saying about Noel, however he is elite at a couple of things (shot-blocking, running the floor for a big man). Otto is elite and will not be elite at anything.

Just think Noel would have had more of an impact, and the things he does well would benefit the Wiz more in the long run.

Just my opinion

Just realized we have two useful trade exceptions, one for $4.3M and the other for $4.65M. Either one could be used to pick up a useful vet off of a team looking to shed a little salary. We could also package a future 2nd rounder if that useful vet is actually a very useful vet. Obviously, we would want such a target to have an expiring deal.

Here are some teams that would probably have interest in dumping a useful vet just to save money and avoid the luxtax:

Golden State (Festus Ezeli is due $2M and expires in 2016)
Chicago (Tony Snell's $1.5M contract?)
Cleveland (could pay us a pick to absorb Mike Miller)
Miami (we could absorb Chalmers or Beasley)
OKC (Novak, Morrow or Lamb)

Adding them would put us in the tax

I think Jones is too small and with all of the PGs in the NBA, its gonna be tough for him.

Plus he doesn't live in the lane like Teague and Paul do... his 2 point percentages are concerning.

Some interesting names here.. Obviously Tobias Harris and Paul Millsap are pipe-dreams but other than that the article is pretty realistic in who we could target. I like the idea of Derrick Williams or Gerald Green coming off the bench and adding some much needed athleticism and scoring ability. Mirza Teletovic would be a nice signing as well since we desperately need shooting though I would much rather throw money at Danny Green.

Otto has a lot of potential. If we got Noel, I'm sure the coach would still find a way to misuse him.

Danny Green will get paid

Teletovic is intriguing
