Growing up Denzel was considered the Goat, how old were you when you realized Jamie Foxx & Samuel L Jackson were better actors.

Denzel could play the character easily but it doesn't seem like a role he'd choose either. Mace Windus role wasn't that complicated. Denzel would have probably fought for the role of Qui Gon or Count Dooku.
It was more than just the acting, even though I don't think Denzel could have done the controlled aggression and anger that was Mace Windu like Samuel L. Jackson. Samuel L also stands close to 6'3 in real life and in the books Mace Windu is just shy of 6'4 so he was more believable in the role as well.

I understand Mace Windu has a decent fan base being the premier Black Jedi Master second only to Yoda and the purple light saber is iconic but film wise the only thing he did was behead Jango Fett and get flung out a window. Denzel could easily have done that. I get what you are saying though that Sam physically fit the part better due to his stature

This was about to start production before the slap.

I brought this to the light years ago on here and I'll say it again. Will Smith should be playing Guy Fisher in a major budget life story film. He looks like he could be Guy's son.

Jamie could absolutely play that character...his comedic background is why he doesn't get taken serious enough in the first place.

It's unlikely because Jamie has yet to embrace/lean into his age.

Sam was 63 when he played that role. Jamie is 57.

We have seen countless actors aged up to play a character they're younger than.

What based on Jamie's work suggests he could have played Stephen?

Jamie aint putting out a scene like this

I literally addressed this already by saying Jamie doesn't lean into his age. He always plays younger.

The man is an In Living Color alumnus. If you don't think Jamie can play Stephen you're being disingenuous.
