I was looking at some old Wrestlemania clips during the "Hogan Era" and seeing how shytty the undercards were but still wondering why WWE was still popular so i decided to finally look up "PPV Wrestling Buyrates" and i decided to make a bar graph of all of the Wrestlemania buy rates from WM 1 - 29
here is a list all of the matches in wrestlemania history and buyrates, etc

I created a Bar Graph with a combination of all the sites i scanned for accurate wm buyrates (might have to zoom in :( )

let the speculation on why people didnt order events and bad buy rates begin

The point of this thread is for you to think of some of the wrestlemanias you may have liked as a kid and see how many people ACTUALLY ordered the ppv and where it ranks each year and why you may think there was an increase and decrease

things to remember while viewing

1. Back in the early 80s, WWE didnt have RAW,Smackdown, or a legit 12 month ppv schedule so everyone ordered wrestlemania on closed circuit tv just to get their Hogan fix and then later came more ppvs but they only have 4 ppvs per season for the longest time (and the prices were likely way cheaper)

2. Hogan left the company around "WM 10" and stopped being a permanent main eventer, that welcomed in the "HBK, Diesel, Undertaker, Bret Hart" years

3. Attitude Era begins and ends at WM 14-17

4. Cena era started at WM 21

its not accurate because prior to the cable boom in the late 80s,early 90s, all ppv events were also shown on closed circuit tv in arenas which is NEVER accounted for when they do these stupid comparisons since they were all over the country.they would have to get a tally of all the tickets sold at each arena which I doubt there is a public record for.as a kid I went to one, it was packed:whew:

more people would buy a ticket to see a ppv on a screen in arena, than current live events today pull:youngsabo:

Wrestlemania 19 failed because the two most promoted matches on the card were Smackdown matches. Even in 2003 when a lot of hardcore fans would tell you it was the better brand to the average casual fan it was still always the less important show. If they had promoted Rock/Austin as hard as they did Hogan/Vince and Brock/Angle it would have performed better.

And another thing that hurt the show is the fact that Brock just didn't click as the big babyface of the company. They pushed him to the moon but he didn't deliver as they’d hoped. People talk about how Brock is a big draw but it was the UFC that made him that. In wrestling he flopped hard as the top guy. Ratings, buyrates were down, he didn't sell much merchandise and he just didn't work as a babyface which is why he turned heel less than a year after going face and they were already grooming Cena for the top face spot even before Lesnar walked.

The only thing that matters is homes that carry PPV. The earlier WrestleMania had waaaaaaaaay higher buyrates. If, for example, WM 5 had the same amount of households that carried PPV now back then, it would be at over 2 million buys.

Maybe more than that.
