Most of the European countries, with much broader and large welfare programs, already have laws like this on the books. It works.

Then they need to get big and do it like them. Instead of passing some piecemeal shyt bill like this. Because there are plenty of so-called liquor stores in the hood that sells groceries too. (shyt...time out.....I just thought about something......there is a big grocery store chain that is coming to Detroit)......they are setting up a monopoly....oh God.

....and you notice they didn't stop them from using the atms at the Casinos...lol

What a waste of time. :snoop:

Like it's gonna be so hard for people to go to the store down the block to get money out.

I'd let them take it out, but have a fee, similar to if you were to use a Bank Of America card at another bank's ATM. $10 per translation fee that is redirected to something constructive. Plenty of idiots would still use those ATMs despite losing money.

Nah, nothing about this law is stupid. If you're saying there are root causes or more important fish to fry, than I'm with you. But saying the previous belief doesn't make this law stupid.

It actually would curb excessive repeat spending, which is the aim.

Like I said earlier, A lot of the European systems have had this type of law in place for a while. It does work and not only helps prevent abuse, but might actually help a few people here and there not starve because they are burning their money betting.

If they not banning the ATM's in the casinos in Michigan than everyone from Michigan knows this law is some bullshyt. The law said nothing about the casinos. And in the same article they were complaining about the 87,000 that was spend with welfare dollars in the casino but no ban on the casinos. Synder is just fukking with local businesses. Using a band-aide to cover up a bullet wound.

No, the law is stupid because it's not going to curb anything. Most urban areas have liquor stores/corner stores out the ass and it's not that hard to go down the street to use a different ATM. Or get more money out in advance if you know you can't use the atm where you're going to be at later. I don't buy for one second that this is going to be some huge deterrent against welfare abuse. ESPECIALLY since it's not in effect in casinos. If somebody wants to use their welfare card for whatever, this law isn't going to stop them.

I find it to be, at best, a very shallow and thoughtless attempt to do something about a problem with much deeper causes. At worst it's just a "See, I'm against poor people too" type of thing so he can get that GOP street cred.

What a fukking waste of time. So now they just will have to go to other ATM's around the corner. Man, give a damn break. What is the deal with caring about what poor people spend their money on!?!? They are going to get welfare anyway, why would I care if they made it rain in the strip club or got a beer! It's called WELFARE, not "I'm giving you money but this how you should use it". I'm so sick and tired of these bureaucrats wasting their time on this shyt when they should be working hard as hell to get jobs back to MI. Picking on poor people is not going help the damn economy. And isn't this an attack on American businesses!?! What about those liquor stores that rely on these poor people coming to the store and buying from them or using their ATM machine? Poor people are not the scum of the Earth and I'm just tired of people treating them like second class citizens or sometimes not even human. fukk Snyder and everything he loves.

Since the poor people get their money from tax dollars, I don't think they should have full say on what they spend it on. I think there should be a contract between welfare recipients in the government so far as what they spend their money on when it comes to liquor, strip clubs, etc. Those poor people who show a consistent record of wise spending habits should be rewarded.

Although the motives behind this are racial, i dont think that anyone on the dole should be spending welfare on strippers, liquor, gambling, cigarettes or any other vices. Any cash benefits should be like food stamps and be debited as opposed to hard currency. You should be limited on what you can purchase. Only neccesary expenditures that arent covered by food stamps - hygiene products, diapers, light bills, transportation, cleaning supplies, clothes, education. Call me heartless, but i dont think anyone on welfare should have spending money.

So is anybody gonna address the whole "This isn't going to stop anybody" thing? :upsetfavre:

Talking about what you think poor people will spend their money on is cool and all, but I don't see too many people in here addressing the actual bill.

:dahell:There are laws against welfare fraud, just like there are laws against robbery. The laws dont stop the criminals, but why shouldn't we do as much as possible to ensure that welfare is spent responsibly?
