Big men that can stretch the floor, keep the opposing center out the paint, and add a new wrinkle into offensive sets is pretty huge.
Even if Whiteside launches one a game, if defenses have to respect it then it's gonna lead to slightly slower rotations and a less clogged lane. It doesn't need to be a focal point but just imagine if Whiteside hits a 3 and then starts rolling hard. Or imagine him being paired with Bam who is a crazy hard roller and offensive rebounder? Bam would feast on most 4s on the offensive glass.
Then you got open lanes for cats like Winslow who can start attacking the paint without bigs prowling.
I don't mind it. Pretty much every really good offensive team in the league has a big that can shoot 3s because it really does add a lot of firepower.
