During the reception, Scott threw Ernst’s name into the ring as a possible presidential contender.

“I know that one day when you’re over all the military or the vice president or the president of this country, I so look forward to saying, ‘yes ma’am,’” Scott told Ernst.

Signalling to everyone that he's not a threat and is really just angling for VP. Presidential candidates want a VP who is considered a "team player," not someone seen as using the position to try and eclipse the top of the ticket.

“I ran for Congress in the place where the Civil War started, and I won because of the evolution of the human heart and the Southern heart continues in the right direction,” said Scott, the first Black person elected to the U.S. Senate from a Southern state since Reconstruction.

“You hear we’ve never lived in a more racially divisive time than right now,“ Scott said. “Did we miss the Civil War? The ’60s or ’70s or race riots? Did we forget that this country evolved to elect an African-American president and now an African-American vice president?”

Remember that at the end of the day most VP selections boil down to addressing the candidate's or party's greatest liability.

We are already in the midst of a low level racial conflict. It is only getting worse. Just watch the news. But the GOP can never come down too harshly bc they're afraid of alienating their base.

It won't really matter. If he was a Dem it would be different, but if there's one thing Republicans can be counted on to do, it's stay in line.


Republicans are going to come out to vote regardless of the VP ticket. Only Dems would stay home because they didn't like the VP.

It not that there going to use him as there black shield to deflect against any body that said there being racism toward black people there going to point to him and said how can we be when we are backing scott
