Fiscal conservatism (also economic conservatism or conservative economics) is a political-economic philosophy regarding fiscal policy and fiscal responsibility advocating low taxes, reduced government spending and minimal government debt.[1] Free trade, deregulation of the economy, lower taxes, and privatization are the defining qualities of fiscal conservatism. Fiscal conservatism follows the same philosophical outlook of classical liberalism and economic liberalism.[2] The term has its origins in the era of the New Deal during the 1930s as a result of the policies initiated by reform or modern liberals, when many classical liberals started calling themselves conservatives as they did not wish to be identified with what was passing for liberalism.[3]

In the United States the term liberalism has become associated with the welfare state and expanded regulatory policies created as a result of the New Deal and its offshoots from the 1930s onwards.[4]Fiscal conservatives form one of the three legs of the traditional conservative movement in the United States, together with social conservatism and national defense conservatism.[5] Many Americans who are classical liberals also tend to identify as libertarian,[6] holding more socially liberal views and advocating a non-interventionist foreign policy while supporting lower taxes and less government spending.[5]

...but but but you can't be fiscally conservative and be social liberal :russ:

Yeah, I don't really get people that say "I'm socially liberal but fiscally conservative".

Those two things are pretty much opposite of each other. To be socially liberal, means that you should support programs and policies that protect marginalised people. Being fiscally and/or economically conservative literally advocates AGAINST of all that by letting "the free market decide" basically everything.
naw not really.

you can believe in (progressive) liberal policies and still believe in conservatism. for example, I myself believe that Universal Health Care should be instituted. UHC is a liberal policy (in America), but really it is more economical and saves money in the long run.

but really, when most ppl think of "fiscal conservatism" they refer more to more efficient government spending and quality control over the government, and not just out right cutting everything. to save money.

No its a Democrat who doesn't believe that you have to spend to the point you're in debt to appease people who want free stuff.

It's a moderate who realizes that democrats have always Instituted economic policies that don't promote movements outside the social caste system by keeping people stuck in social welfare nets. Also continue to push policies to embolden other races other than non-blacks so they can continue to renege on the supposed 40 acres and a mule that was due to us.

Nice citing a decades long racist conservative “self perpetuating welfare queens” narrative because the idea of poor blacks (whites, and others too for that matter) getting just a pittance of something “free” as they live in shyt is so offensive.

Waaah Waaah Waaah cry me a river. You work for what you get, if youre stuck in the social welfare net, it's parttly your own doing , especially if youre white . Stop looking for others to pull you out of situations you out yourself in

So policy out of spite? “Wah wah wah poor people getting a couple hundred dollars a week that I don’t get is the real problem”

Way bigger problems related to social/economic mobility then this bullshyt.

Um, yeah that's what I said. It's called fiscal RESPONSIBILITY not fiscal conservatism.

Republicans have done a good job of trying to tie fiscal conservatism with supposedly being "the party of fiscal responsibility". As a result, many people on both sides seem to think that the Republicans are better/less wasteful when it comes to taxes and the economy (numerous polls and studies show this).

However, that's BS. The Republicans have NEVER been the party of fiscal responsibility. Usually, the Democratic Party has been much more fiscally responsible than the GOP.

:francis: If you still think social outcomes can be decoupled from economics......

Never said they can, what does that have to do with what I said? Again you can't discern the difference and basics of what I'm saying so you're creating unsound arguments. Instead of being so haughty, why don't you learn and be educated?

I literally posted the definitions of fiscal conservatism which is based in fiscal responsibility and smaller government role in people's lives. You're twisting shyt a bit for your own agenda to create a rebuttal, and while it sounds great it's not accurate to the widely accepted connotation.

Your second paragraph is factual as neither republicans of Democrats have been fiscally responsible, both sides happy to spend and it's been more about where they spend .Republicans on defense, wars, and cutting taxes without applicable cuts elsewhere and Democrats spending on all the insane social welfare programs.

I don't give a f*ck if you want to put your head in the sand.

Being fiscally conservative is just about the antithesis to being a social liberal. PERIOD.

I will go no further. Goodbye.

regardless of political affiliations, do you feel it is possible for ppl to want to and contribute to help others, while simultaneously being fiscally responsible?

and you're 100% wrong, the fact that you can't prove what you're saying shows your ignorance, not mine. My head is in the sand but I'm the one willing to have a conversation. I'm the one that admitted your 2nd paragraph was accurate. But you're the one frustrated, in err, and running away with your tail between your legs.

he's going to play with the definition of fiscal conservative and fiscal responsible, which he believes aren't related and that you cannot be fiscally conservative and still expect a governmental, private, and social role in ensuring people are treated fairly, equally, and with respect. Remove govenment out of peoples lives and you will see more people doing for themselves and communities that's human intuition and tendency
