Not sure how a replacement refs hurts player safety. They don't play the game

I dont think it matters. I cant recall off the top of my head hearing any players complain about it. Players play with aches/pains/soreness/injuries all the time. Thats all part of the game and you cant prevent that stuff, whether its 3 days off or 6 days off. When talking about safety, its more about trying to prevent things that can be career or life threatening, such as the horse collar rule, hitting defenseless players, and shots to the head, things like that.

:usure:

So you don't think six days of rest is more effective than three days of rest? Because you do realize that's essentially what you said.

Where did I say 3 days of rest is better than 6 days? Of course 6 days is better than 3 days. Is it putting players "safety" in jeopardy? I don't think so.

Yes we all love the NFL. Yes we all want to see as many games as we possibly game. And yes we are thankful for Thursday Night football (if you have NFL Network :shaq: )
But good ole Roger loves safety and is trying his hardest to promote it and changing the game in ways to make it safer. That's his MO he's the safety guy. So why is he only giving players 3 days to recover from the hits and the pains they took the previous Sunday? NFL players barely recover, if at all, when they have 6 days in between games but now two teams have to lace em back up in half the time. Sure they get a few days extra on the back-end but that doesn't balance things out seeing how the damage has already been done.
I wish I could get a player's take on this.
Just something I thought about earlier today. Thoughts? Opinions?

You're grasping at straws.

Lack of rest can lead to more injuries as your senses are off. Your muscles don't work right.

Player safety is also BS. offensive players have free reign to ram a defense players head backwards to drag him by his face mask to keep him from tckling him

Ehh. I would like to see stats that compare rate of injuries on Thursday night game as compared to any random Sunday game.

And of course player "safety" is BS. Is safety was a #1 priority the NFL would be a no contact flag football league. Even then players could still get hurt (see Robert Edwards ending his career by tearing an ACL playing flag football on a beach). My point is if you're gonna get hurt, you're gonna get hurt. Its a contact sport, with a bunch of monsters running around hitting each other, people are gonna get hurt. These are pro athletes who are used to the contact, playing one game on short rest is not putting them at any more risk than playing a game any other time

It is. Short rest Increases your chances of injury and blunders. It's a fact. Doesn't mean everytime something catastophic is gonna happen.

There's a reason football has had the schedule it has and it's not for gameplanning. It's for maximum recovery time from the beating you took.

If the dudes are hurting like that and they're not ready to go, then they wont play :yesshrug: I don't believe small things like soreness from a hit they took 4 days ago is gonna lead to another serious injury, it might lead to them running out of bounds to avoid taking another big hit while they're sore, but its not putting anybodys safety at risk. Just my take on it

Not true.

Jason Witten was begging to play with a torn spleen and Urlacher fresh off of a knee injury. I doubt they'll say, "oh, we can't play with only 3 days of rest." 'Cause they know their peers will look at them like :childplease:.

They've been playing thursday night games on a limited basis for decades, where's the evidence that these games have significantly increased the chance of injury?
