Vegeta was stronger than goku in between the battle of gods and universal tournament arc. As he was training with Whis on Beerus planet for months before goku found out. Of course Goku surpassed him with SSB+Kaioken

He was also stronger than Goku during the final fight VS Goku Black. As he folded his ass up forcing him to merge with Zamasu

He also was the first character in the TOP to give Jiren any kind of damage. Dipped all his punches and gave him two body blows. He also was the first to knock Jiren down with his Final Flash

Even Ultra Instinct Omen was not able to deliver that much damage to Jiren

Currently in the manga Vegeta is stronger or at worst he is equal
