All this is is just an extensions of Skull Island KOTM & Godzilla vs Kong with the Hollow Earth. The novels go into more detail. It's difficult to make these movies make sense since the main antagonists & protagonists in these films can't speak. You have to accept them for what they are

They did an excellent job of putting Shimo all throughout this trailer without ever really showing him.

The Kong gif made me think what if it's due to Kong maybe catching a type of frostbite damage from that blast? As a manmal unfortunately he's more susceptible to the elements Kong is a righty, guarding more with his right, that gauntlet isn't just for added offense.
