Nah Cloverfield was just an ugly dumb design. I think that was my biggest issue with that film, the monster was just really dumb looking

I think that was my biggest problem w/ the movie. I loved the viral marketing, the trailer, and I was on the edge of my seat during the movie and then the reveal came and it was a giant praying mantis/spider creature. I was expecting something bigger and more powerful looking. I had the same issue with Super 8 too. Ironically, Mr. Secretive - J.J. Abrams was behind both movies (he produced Cloverfield and directed Super 8).
There's going to be a monster that resembles a centipede. I assumed those claw like things were the centipedes legs...

I wonder if the centipede creature could be an updated version of the Meganulon creature from Rodan. It was brought back in the Millenium series in Godzilla X Megaguirus.
There's also rumored to be a giant spider creature in the movie. Maybe that's an updated version of Kumonga from Son of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, and Godzilla: Final Wars.
