Gods Son is a classic but this is classic thats more on the level of Stillmatic, I would have a real tough time pickin between the two. Its probably still too soon

Thats a harrrdddddd one man. I've always placed either Gods Son or Streets Disciple in the criminally underrated category. There was a period of time when I felt GS was the album that deserved 5 Mics over Stillmatic as his second official classic. Gods Son has some of the strongest, most intimately personal tracks that Nas has ever spit. Think about Book Of Rhymes, Warrior Song, Revolutionary Warfare, Last Real nikka Alive, Thugz Mansion, Dance and Heaven. Those songs are almost undeniably classic just from the ferocity, the pain, the longing, and the passion that he spits with. Gods Son is truly what can be considered a work from the heart.

Life Is Good is kind of a slicker version of Gods Son. It's what you'd get if you put It Was Written/I Am Escobar lyrical fierceness with Gods Son maturity and wisdom. The personal anecdotes are there, their just wrapped in Nas's superb talent of storytelling. No Introduction, Daughters, Stay, and Queen's Story are VERY personal tracks that make me say "Damn Nas just spit FIRE" more than they make me go :ohhh: man dude just bared his soul like Dance and Heaven had me. Bye Baby and Roses came the closest to giving that feeling.

Life Is Good is just more a feel good album to me, I can listen to it anytime, anyplace and just feel good about Hip Hop. Gods Son past Made You Look I kind of have to be in a certain mood for which isn't a bad thing it's just not an everyday type of album

Kind of a random bump but in regard to your post I get a strange feeling that the way we compare Gods Son to LIG....late this year we may be doing the same with Street's Disciple and the next Nas album...

also funny God's Son and LIG are almost a decade apart...l

I think this upcoming record could be the "redemption Street's Disciple" for many fans

I personally like Streets Disciple. I remember being in SHOCK when I finally started posting on Hip Hop forums and saw the hate that album got. Nas spit some fire on that album and it's kind of the last album coming off that Stillmatic-God's Son post Jay-Z battle era where he was still calling out names and not giving a fukk. He threw shots at Jay/50/Diddy by NAME on that album and threw subs at Kanye/Cam/Snoop, he gave props to the old school legends (Doug E. Fresh and Rakim) experimented with story telling (Sekou's Story, Live Now) waxed political (American Way, These Are Our Heroes) pretty much gave us all the different Nas personas on one album (hence the cover art) I remember being very impressed with him going against the norm and speaking positively about black fatherhood (both with Bridging The Gap and Me & You) and Black relationships (Getting Married/No One else In The room/Remember The Times) it was an all around very grounded and forward thinking album

lol I thought I was the only one who remember this!

same thing happend to "I am" too. Most hiphop fans (and the source) felt that Nas finally found the balance between the gritty sound of Illmatic and the comercial appeal of "it was written".

I am the original version with all the songs that made it to lost tapes was Nas's greatest album... by a landslide... the version that actually came out had a LOT of rushed joints on it, like for instance the K I S S I N G track was put on there the same time the RKelly joint was still in radio rotation...

blaze a 50
poppa was a player
fetus
rise and fall
nas is like
hate me now
new york state of mind II
ghetto prisoners
project window
undying love

UNCONTROVERSIALLY would be Nas best album ever and there are still a good 5 to 6 good but not universally aclaimed nas songs from those sessions...

problem with streets disciple was just tooo much material, it was overall a good offering of potential album cuts, but you could cut half the songs and lose absolutely nothing... they arent really bad they just are just blah overall...

life is good is way better from an analytical point of view than godson, meaning the beats and lyrical display is just plain out better on life is good... god son has a lot of tracks that might emotionally resonate, and it has 'classic' songs like made you look that define a certain part of nas' career while life is good really doesnt have that.

Nas ripped those God's Son verses...it was like his anger on Stillmatic turned to aggressive bravado

Life Is Good is still one of my fav albums of the last 15 yrs bc it's grown man rap for those 35+

God's Son is the last we saw of peak Nas so that's my pick...but I hold LIG in really high regard bc of records like No Introduction, Stay, The Don, etc...
