It's not, but you failed as a father if your son turns to the streets

You failed as a father when you support your son's rap career and all he talking about is street shyt

Shooting nikkas, flipping bricks

He saw Wallo go to jail for years for that dumb shyt

On one hand I agree with you totally as a father of a 20 year old black male. On the other hand we lose sight that in today's world.....we just cant raise our children completely unless we shelter them, keep them in the house and not allow them access to tv, phone, internet....and even then they may get buck wild as soon as they get away from that shelter. My son has always been in my household every single day of his life, 2 parent household and he was in the wrong hood a few months ago and got carjacked at gunpoint, some chicks lined him. he is not a street kid and doesnt claim to be one but as our kids get older we spend less and less time with them, from preschool, to elementary, it becomes less and less and more with their friends/peers...by the time they get to the age where they can take public transportation or drive, you dont know what they are in to, then once they get over 18 its a wrap. I dont want to say Gillie failed as a father because its so hard with all the influences outside of the home. Gillie has to be held accountable to a degree of course because he glorified certain lifestyles.

If you believe this you just don’t know. Plenty of well of present fathers have loss children to the street. No matter how well somebody is raised, they still a person with they own personality, and decisions to make and some go down the wrong road despite not having to.

Yeah I'm from a "good" neighborhood in Philly and a lot of kids where I'm from had no reason to hustle, sell drugs or jump in the streets but did.

I mostly agree with you but the one thing I will say is that you really do have to keep you kid busy to the point where they don't have time to be in the streets. Most kids get into shyt because after school is over or during the summer, they are just hanging around doing nothing, at the basketball courts where people are smoking weed, selling drugs, etc. I don't want to be judgmental but Gillie definitely had the resources to send his kid to private school, make sure he's in all types of camps and activities so that he's not in the streets.

Let's just say for instance, his parents forced him to learn how to play piano and he had to practice 3-5 times a week. That's hours where he's just not around dumb shyt. Gillie does have to be held accountable because it's pretty clear his father was wrapped up in the streets, putting out music that promoted violence and degeneracy and unfortunatley the chickens came home to roost. We don't know the story of what happened so I don't want to be harsh because it could have happened to anyone of us so maybe that's not fair but his son's music did promote violence and he got the back the same energy he put in his music.

So where are the nice neighborhoods in Philly?

And a lot of shyt I’ve heard that happens on the east coast scares me

I wonder if part of the issue is just the high number of people packed together

In NYC it's a high number of people packed together in the "hot" locations, many of which are easily accessible to people who live in the city. I stopped at a light on the way home last night, looked to the right and I saw Tracy Morgan getting into a drop top Lambo. He had a bad one with him, I want to assume security was with him but they weren't front and center. I'm no one for him to fear but he was vulnerable in that moment, especially with the cane and all.

Famous Philly entertainers like Meek, Uzi, Embiid all live in NYC

Rittenhouse Square and south of it is pretty decent

All the way down to the Italian and Asian neighborhoods.

There are a few rough pockets but for the most part they're all decent

I actually saw Wallo in a Wholefoods about a month ago

Above the fray.

Until a few years ago, Gillie was likely still involved in the streets. And not until recently, did he get any kind of serious legal money. His deceased son was 25. When his son was in K-12, I don't think Gill had money to place all of his children in private school. I get your overall point about activities, and how idleness can lead to kids running the streets.

Yeah, Gillie was definitely selling weed heavy because I remember when he got booked in 2007 for selling weed.

I've been around Gillie before and while don't necessarily know what he was making but it's kinda hard to convince me you don't have money for private school when you have these chains. If you're making 100K a year you can pay for private school and I'm sure Gillie was clearing that between the streets, ghostwriting and his rap hustles.

But yeah, I don't want to make his son's death about schooling at all.....but I say that to say, you can definitely keep your kids away from nonsense. My niece lives in jersey and she doesn't have an element of street in her at all and I see the difference between in myself growing up in philly and her growing up in a jersey suburb and going to school with white people.

Ultimately I think this was a case of the apple not falling far from the tree. People forgot that Gillie got shot 3 times in 2006.

y'all have to realize this: you might do everything you can to keep your kids straight, but there are times that they will not listen to you, where they have to learn from their own mistakes. Unfortunately, whatever he was mixed up in cost him his life....but this shyt ain't as easy as you think. Cheese was a grown man making his own mistakes; there's only so much Gillie could've done.

Had an ex-friend who father used to put hands on him because he was trying to steer him on the right path...

Didn't work at all..

When you maneuvering in the same hood/areas as your pops, sometimes expectations are put on by others and even the individual...
