Most people can only see things from their persepective. These guys made it without college so they don't see the value or necessity. Not unlike a parent that did go to college seeing it as the end all be all and rejecting all other options. Budden is passing wealth on to his kids (I am assuming. You never know with that nikka ). No college with money, a famous last name, and connections is different than no college without those things. Did any of Run's kids go to college? Not saying its right or should be the rule.

This is not true. A 2015 Pew Research Center survey found that 79 percent of Black parents with children under 18 said it is either extremely or very important that their children earn a college degree, compared with 67 percent of White parents.

Those cats went to Ivy league schools and got connected. Bezos has 2 degrees from princeton and he was from a regular family.

Also if you read Steve Jobs' book he said one of the reasons he developed the typography seen in personal computers today because he attened a calligraphy class. He was an anomally who was driven enough to start his own thing while having connections to someone who could build what he was trying to do. He was an extreme outlier but most people who don't go to school will end up working some dead end job.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it’s likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college.

Whats funny about this movement is that a lot of the tech billys actually met their business partners/teams in college, so at the end of the day it did help them suceed even if they dropped out.

i went to a state school, got 2 degrees outta them....and the way I saw tuition rise my entire time was nuts. The quality of education didn't change drastically, so I always wondered wtf the rising costs were for


College is what you make of it in the end. One of my degrees was in marketing, but it was on the cusp of social media...so all the shyt i learned became kinda useless, since we were transitioning into social media and i had to learn all the current shyt on my own/on the job.

Bankers are doing this, so that anti intellectualism among non wealthy people will always sound attractive.

Uh, careful with those examples. Do you know their backgrounds? These weren’t some random hicks in the middle of nowhere who got lucky with a scholarship and a bus ticket to the big city

That’s like saying “LeBron didn’t go to college”

These were connected young WHITE men who attended prestigious (high) schools and were smart enough to get into top universities. Plus they were smart enough to literally create apps, tech companies, etc.


The average person of any race will never be born with those connections, attend those schools, live in those neighborhoods or have the brainpower to achieve what they have achieved.


SO YEA- that’s why you attend college. It sets you apart from the other average folks who don’t have the super smarts to LITERALLY change the world. 99% of dropouts aren’t some phenom or anomaly like the examples you cited.

No, it doesn’t have to be college, but a trade, certs, SOMETHING post-secondary.
