Yeah “The Admiral” had more skills on the offensive end. The only edge I give to Giannis is he’s a better ball handler than Admiral was.

The Admiral use to routinely come up short against Olajuwon, Karl Malone, and other guys of that era when it counted.

People kinda forget about it because Duncan came in and carried him to a couple of championships when he was on the decline. If Duncan was drafted to Boston which was originally looking like it might happen until they fell in the draft you are looking at the Admiral now like a lot of people look at Barkley today.

Giannis is either going to have to change his playing style and develop a reliable jumper which is probably not going to happen at this point (I think he is what he is at that point in his career) or he is going to have play with an elite shooting guard or small forward that can create his own shot and knock down shots in the clutch.

He can go out and get 30 and 15 and 5 against anybody and lead his team to the playoffs and win mvp

most dominant player in the paint since Shaq.
But what does he do in the playoffs? A true #1 elevates his game in the playoffs and he doesn't. In the playoffs he goes from the most dominate player in the paint to someone you forget is even on the court. Not a #1 imo:yeshrug:

Uncertain grounds
In real time very little, if any, people cared about David Robinson

He was the guy that everyone mentioned as a good player just because we felt obligated to for whatever reason and respected his service

Empty stat machine that got carried by a true goat to a ring. Could he have had better casts? Sure. But that could be said of most stars in any era. His scoring title was a joke and then he intentionally stayed out of games to tank. And lost almost every series that mattered until he was a dusty role playing shell of himself

The era's admiral is closer to Karl Anthony Towns than Giannis

If he ends his career like Robinson he'd be all time great :dwillhuh:
There are levels to greatness.

You have Jordan, Kareem, LeBron, Kobe, Tim Duncan, and Wilt gold standards of greatness.

You have other guys like Hakeem and Dirk that slide in after them.

Then you have guys like Kevin Garnett, Chuck, K. Malone, Admiral, and a bunch of other guys that were all time greats to but obviously not on the level of the abovementioned greats. The fans and media do distinguish a difference in those guys.

Giannis on his way to being in the latter category of greatness as things stand as opposed to the first couple if he doesn’t fix his game in the next year or two.

You play to be the best and he has the physical tools to be as good as anyone, but his skills are not on the level of other guys of this era (i.e. LeBron, Durant, Kawhi).

These guys play to be the best, and in the league at any given time there are usually no more than 4-6 guys that you can argue are among the best in the world. No great player is playing to be anything less than a top tier superstar.

Duncan was lucky to be drafted to a team with as good a player as David Robinson on it.

Bruh playin PF/C is much like playin WR, u will seldom see that position be able to jus carry an offense by themselves that’s why when they do we applaud em so much

Giannis may be good on that fast break but he’s clearly not a player who can jus set up an offense, truth is he’s closer to Shaq than anyone we’ve seen since then, he just isn’t playin wit a Penny, Kobe or D Wade. Ask yourself what happened in the playoff series Shaq wasn’t playing with another HOF talent, there’s only so much a paint dominant big can do
