I think if they gave the stances strengths and weaknesses, instead of just being a perfect counter to weapon types.It really just requires timing if we being honest.
Plus have enemies use different stances in duels forcing you to adapt to them, it would been strategy to it.
For example if an enemy sees you using a the stone stance, they start using the water stance which effectively make your stone ineffective, so you change to wind stance to counter their water, and so on. a constant back and forth until you land the killing blow.
Still feels very fluid and cinematic looking though, also still very satisfying killing an enemy.
