@Aizen @Emperor_ReinScarf , props for sharing your experiences :salute:

Any more info / data from those that have been to Ghana? What was it like?

I noticed the British accent in some people, the popularity of British beer (thick, dark, higher alcohol percentage than some light people people sip in the USA) and the heat. Some of the "nice" restaurants were really just places that served American food. They were expensive. Also, the presence of rice was on par of when I visited China. There were some days I had rice for all 3 meals. So if you like rice, great. If you don't, then go with the stew and eat other things. Ghana is a pretty country. If you like taking pictures of nature, you'll take a lot of pictures and be happy with how it looks.

-not too surprised in the food and weather, west africa usually has that on point.

-weak government because of the Mahama (sp) administration or is it more of an institutional thing?

-electricity / water issues...not too surprised with that either, hopefully it gets better.

-growing infrastructure and opportunities....good stuff
Definitely institutional. Let's face it, West African countries rely on Western powers. Which is why those who do want to go over there need to operate at the local level first.

Makes sense, the whole region can be frustrating on that front.

How is safety for a tourist? Accra in particular?

@Aizen @Emperor_ReinScarf chime in too if you can.

Not a problem at all. Seriously. Most tourists walk from area to area. Locals told me they found it mind boggling. "Too damn hot." But like anywhere else in the world, make sure you know where you are at night. Because just like anywhere else in the world, you never wanna be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But even then I've never been concerned while I was out there.

Black or not, you can tell a lot of them either haven't been to Ghana or even Africa in general. A whole lot of speculation with little to no frame of reference.

It's one thing to say moving there isn't easy or simple, or even that one must have a clear plan before doing so. Shutting down the prospect of doing so off GP is where I'm like :stopitslime:
yeah, a lot of posters on here like to be condescending when they disagree with you rather than have constructive conversation about it.

There is no conversation to be had between people who are not even a part of the people being discussed. Some of you have incredibly low self esteems bordering on the feminine.

A battle? How exactly are you fighting such battles? By marching and protesting every time a black kid is shot? How will marching and protesting and writing a letter to your local congressman going to yield any change?

The only way to get real change is by violence (see Ismaaiyl Brinsley, Malcolm X) but most black people aren't willing to go that route. Instead we want to talk about forgiveness (http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2015/06/dylann-roof-manifesto-forgiveness/396428/).

The world is a big place. The US isn't the only country in the world. Why not move to another country if it means you'll have a better life? This is what some of the Jews did when they moved out of Germany.

@JudgeJoeGorilla talk to these people man
I already talked to this guy before. He thinks he can win the fight here which won't happen. That's why I said, we can have better lives elsewhere. I'd rather be in a place they accepted me at than in fear for my life. It's stockholm syndrome in fulll effect.

Accra won't be much different than a medium/large American city in some respects. Just be aware and you'll be safe. I didn't find it dangerous at all. A tourist could get in trouble in some areas by getting their pocket picked or flashing money. But being aware takes that threat away.

Visiting is a start. I would encourage people to do that before wanting to move ANYWHERE. Not sure what your point is.

And anyone who kills the idea of relocating and hasn't even been there yet refuses to entertain it, needs to be questioned.

My point is you considering people against the idea white. Which imo is unfair. So what if they dont want to move to Africa, criticize the idea or entertain the idea. How the heck does that make them white? That's like saying a redneck southern white American is not white because he doesn't want to move to overly liberal/non-religious Scandinavia... .

And like I said it goes both ways. Why the heck are people only focusing on AA's dissing Africans, when it happens the other way too. Go on Nairaland and you'll see. Any "back to Africa" topic is usually centered around Africans on that site saying they dont want "akata" mass migrating.
