Yo so when did Star Wars officially become “episode 4”? I could’ve sworn that shyt was just Star Wars when I was growing up. I didn’t hear nikkas calling it “A New Hope” until later

It was right after Empire Strikes Back, Lucas came up with that idea during that movie, since ESB is Episode V. He was just like "we can start this shyt in the middle"
He retroactively named it Episode IV: A New Hope after ESB came out. So like after 1980.
