That was supposed to happen, but Lucas was told that it was too dark. It was supposed to end with Luke putting Vader's helmet on after he killed him and Luke becoming the next Dark Lord. Then he would be killed by Leia in the next trilogy.Im not a star wars fan but I remember watching the trilogy and being confused that Luke didn't turn heel.
Wouldve made more sense.
