:mjlol: imagine listening to this complete and utter neoliberal pablum about public-private partnerships tax credits for housing development and wanting to work with the private sector because she know the limitations of government and finding it an inspiring paean to the values of the Democratic Party. This is what I mean when I say the Democrats are still fearfully living in the shadow of Reagan. None of this would be out of place at a Mitt Romney 2012 campaign rally.

Oh, but the downpayment assistance. She's a real FDR for our times.

See there is where I need to understand if I am missing something, or we simply aren't taking kamala at her word.

What is essentially wrong with saying you want to work with the private sector in order to try to do what's right for Americans?

You’ll have to spend your day talking with him. If you are too embarrassed to admit what part Europe you are from or why you felt Trump was the best candidate for black people in the US and abroad, serious conversations need not take place. If you want a Reddit meme war, he’s your man.

A load-bearing concept in the right-wing conservative project is to destroy the very foundation of public governance so it can be taken over by private interests. This is why they push policies like privatization of Medicaid/Medicare and Social Security (or the NHS). But in order to do this, they need to grease the skids by inuring the public to anti-government sentiments. So they put out ideas like tax is theft, government is inherently wasteful, the private sector is more efficient, etc. This is why Reagan was the arch-Conservative; he was able to make anti-government sentiment very appealing and understandable to the average person. And ever since Reagan (and Thatcher) the Liberal project has been on the backfoot and replaced by a neoliberalism that accedes to this pro-private, anti-public mentality. Trump and Musk's direct attack on the very justification for public governance and its workers is part and parcel of this right-wing conservative movement. In this fight, there is no way "the limitations of government" should be coming out of the mouth of any Democrat. It's conceding the fundamental conception at the heart of this fight, and instantiating the inferiority of the public sector, making it justify its presence vs the "naturally dominant" force of the private sector. Especially at a time like this when the public sector is weaker than its ever been since the Gilded Age. This is the canard Kamala Harris was trading in for the sake of appeasing conservative/Republican ideology. FDR would never talk about public governance like Kamala Harris has.
