What happens if Pence becomes president and they need a VP to break a tie?

Obviously this is pretty far out there lol

If Trump dies the Congress has to vote to give a nominee the job. So Pelosi could drag her feet and keep Republicans from having a vote.

If Pence is just a temp President I guess it is Pelosi and still can give the Dems the tiebreaker.

And two Republican senators have already tested positive, both of whom are on the Judiciary committee? Potentially more positive tests to come?

This is become the most remarkable, unpredictable series of political events in our lifetime. Maybe in a century at least for the USA.

She already had it in the summer, so chances are that she's still immune.

But senators are coming down with it, so we'll see.

It doesn't really matter to McConnell, he'll do the process in October, November, December, whenever.

If they lose the senate and presidency next month and McConnell pushes it through anyway after that the optics of that are so bad it would give the dems a mandate to remove the filibuster and add justices to the court.

Either they do it before the election or not at all because after would be a meaningless action. That being said unless those two senators take a turn for the worse they'll be back in time for the senate floor vote at the end of October.

Don't doubt for a second that McConnell will do it. He'll use all powers he has on the bet that Democrats will chicken out on retaliation in an effort to "move on".

I was thinking they had to be back earlier than that because they're both on the Judiciary Committee. But I just looked it up and they can vote "by proxy". So unless he's incapacitated to the point of not being responsive then they're fine.

There's also the question, of course, if those who are sick have/will infect others who will get sick later. We definitely don't know if they've weeded out every one with the virus yet.
