C.V. Danes @cv-danes.com
Certainly making it highly dangerous to pass through LEO would be one way to end the Mars colonization boondoggle.
Of course, it would also end some rather good stuff, too.

Layer8 @layer8problem.bsky.social
No, I actually want them to try to live on Mars because it would be hilarious watching people realise how deadly and miserable living there is in real time.

But I kinda like GPS and the Hubble and Landsat and other amazing stuff.
Lots of good things will disappear if Skum (and Bezos and the Chinese) are allowed to overload the sky.
8/30
Michael Coyle @oplopanax.ca
GPS might be safe since it's in MEO but Hubble would be toast
9/30
PeakVT @peakvt.bsky.social
That's probably right, because the volume is so much greater. I think there would be a small increase in risk, but MEO would be safe in practice.

This is patently idiotic. No (smart) foreign government wants to hand internet access over to someone with close ties to another government. It’s not like they didn’t JUST watch Musk use it to insert his thumb into the Russia incursion in Ukraine.
I’ll believe it when it’s not just lip service.

Other countries SHOULD BE PETRIFIED that if MUSK decided that he didn't like "this" or "that" during a war, he could cut all communication, slow communication and/or change the communication -- and no one would KNOW. Commercialization should not be included in government communications of any sort.
