That's sad imagine paying $50K for a EV truck and shyt constantly breaks down and needs repairs right off the lot... :snoop: a used dodge would last insanely longer than a tesla...:mjlol:

DR says goodbye to X: "We don't want to be part of that anymore"

No more watching DR on the social media X. In practice, this means that DR's profiles will be deleted from 1 August

JUNE 28, 2024, 3:34 PM

Danmarks Radio has decided to leave the social media X.

This is confirmed by Anders Emil Møller, chief editorial officer at DR News, to Journalisten.

DR has made the decision to leave X because, according to Anders Emil Møller, the social media does not make it possible for DR to moderate the debate under their articles so that it stays within DR's standards.

"Now we have already decided to close off comments on our large profile on Facebook for DR News, and now we are doing the same on X," says Anders Emil Møller and continues:

"And that's because X doesn't offer the opportunity to moderate content and comments, and we don't want to be part of that anymore."

Action against digital harassment

The decision to leave X applies from 1 August and concerns the profiles DR News, Deadline, Debate, P1, DR News Breaking, DR Sport and the group profile for Danmarks Radio.

In practice, this means that DR's profiles will be deleted from 1 August and for a shorter period thereafter.

Senior Editorial Director Anders Emil Møller explains that DR's farewell to X should also be seen as an expression of wanting to protect its employees as well as its sources.

"We have no control over what can be written about one of our employees or contributors, and we have no control over how the tone of the comments about the articles we share is," says Anders Emil Møller and continues:

"We feel a great responsibility for the environment that surrounds our content. It simply does not measure up to our ambitions for public service, nor does it measure up to our efforts against digital harassment."

What's next?

The decision to leave X comes two years after DR News chose to shut down the comment track on Facebook.

Now you stop being on X. Is this an expression that DR wants to phase out the use of social media?

"I would actually say no to that. We will always have the opportunity to use and research all platforms. New social media are being added, and there are many different types of tasks and target groups for DR," says Anders Emil Møller.

Isn't it a condition as a media in a democratic society that you must have the opportunity to debate your news?

"People are free to debate all sorts of important things in society on these platforms. What we don't want is for it to be on our profiles, where we feel a responsibility for the tone that is under the articles we share. You can still easily share our content. We just don't want that to happen during the content we share," says Anders Emil Møller.

If it becomes possible to moderate the debate on X in the future, will you come back?

"Then we have to take it up again. In the digital world, new things are constantly happening, and we relate to that. We never give up any opportunity to try something new. But here it's not about trying something new. We've been at X for a long time, and it's only gotten worse with the tone there, so now we're withdrawing," says Anders Emil Møller.

He's a long time car enthusiast who loves to call bullsh*t, check this article in 2022 about FSD. He seemed fairly neutral about it, even admitted to it being an exciting development but immediately called bullsh*t on how Tesla was marketing it.

It Tesla shares went up after announcing they delivered fewer cars this quarter than last year.

It’s a meme stock and like all meme stocks, will face reality at some point.

X weighs adding a downvote button to replies — but it doesn’t want to emulate Reddit

X, formerly Twitter, could be bringing back a downvote feature for posts — something it had previously tested back in 2021, ahead of Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social network. At the time of the original experiment, Twitter had tested both upvoting and downvoting buttons, similar to how users can vote on the social forums site Reddit. But now, code references found in the X iOS app indicate that the company could be considering adding downvotes for replies only to improve how they’re ranked.

The code was first spotted by reverse engineer Aaron Perris, @aaronp613 on X, who regularly uncovers new app features ahead of launch; the code references were discovered in Tuesday’s iOS app update, Perris told TechCrunch.

Finding a reference in an app’s code about a new feature or functionality doesn’t necessarily mean the company is planning to bring the feature to the public. Companies, and particularly social media apps, internally test new features all the time before deciding whether to expand a project or scrap it.

However, in this case, at least one X engineer as well as X owner Elon Musk have now commented on the possible addition.

According to Jay Baxter, senior staff machine learning engineer at X who works on Community Notes, the idea to leverage a negative signal could be useful, as it’s something that works for X’s crowdsourced fact-checking feature, too.

He explains that if you simply added up all the negative signals, you could get a “hivemind like Reddit.” But one way to improve this system would be to only downrank those posts that had negative ratings from people who typically disagree, he said on X.

This is similar to the system X uses with Community Notes, a feature that requires consensus among people who don’t typically agree before its fact-checks go live.

While Baxter didn’t specifically confirm that downvotes were in development, he said that Community Notes relies on private ratings to avoid a “hivemind” and that the private rating data was released anonymously after 48 hours to make the ratings public without “poisoning the rating process” itself.

Musk also chimed in on the thread with a one-word comment: “True.”

Using a consensus-building algorithm to rank posts could help X highlight the better replies in long threads and could inspire other companies to use similar tools on their platforms. Already, X’s Community Notes feature has inspired YouTube to test its own version, simply called Notes. In a day and age where people don’t always agree on the truth, it’s a way to center what “most people” agree on as the accepted fact, while still citing sources. But it’s managed by the social network’s users, not by a central authority.

Other social startups are exploring different ways to moderate their communities, however. Bluesky, for instance, is experimenting with composable moderation, where users can subscribe to their own moderation service providers to customize the app to their liking — even layering one service on top of another.

Downvotes may not be the only change coming to X. Another post from Perris now floating around Xshows a user interface that hides engagement buttons, such as the “Like” and “Repost” buttons, by default in favor of a new gesture-based menu to access these and other actions.
