I'm thinking this isn't self sabotage and he is destroying Twitter on purpose

I throw on my tinfoil hat from time to time about this. Twitter was part of a lot of global unrest and a way for people to share copious amounts of information in near real time. Take that channel away from people and you've got a greater ability for control.

He did, but there was some inertia slowing the down fall. He just through gas on the failure fire.
A slowing down is different from destruction. America is slowly receding as the ultimate power, would you want to see how that is if it’s completely gone in the next 15 months?

It's like he is intentionally hitting a self destruct button.
He's a dork who is stuck in 1998.

It’s always been that. The site was a valuable communication platform used for grassroots organizing so it had to be destroyed. Him personally reinstating accounts of open nazis like the guy who founded the daily stormer while journalists who report on domestic terrorism got banned just for one example always made this obvious.

TikTok is adding text posts

The shortform video app is adding the ability to share text-based posts with music and stickers, similar to Instagram Stories.

TikTok text posts with short blurbs of text and adding background music

Image: TikTok

TikTok users can now post text-based updates in addition to videos and series of photos — just as platforms like Meta’s Threads are vying to take on Twitter’s microblogging dominance.

Text posts appear similar to Instagram Stories visually: users can add a background color, edit how text appears, and add music and stickers to the post. Posts have a 1,000-character limit (yes, I tested it to find out). Other users can also engage with the post similar to how they interact with video — by stitching, dueting, and commenting.

Seeing the company responsible for the tidal wave of shortform video add text features is interesting on its own, but the timing is worth noting. Platforms like Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, and a litany of others are trying to position themselves as a viable replacement to Twitter — or at least something that approximates what made Twitter fun. But as the platform increasingly loses features, traffic, and even its iconic bird logo, the window for other apps to jump in is open. TikTok appears to be at least a little interested.

Meta, TikTok’s main competitor in shortform video, had a record-breaking week following the release of Threads earlier this month. But will it stick? Daily active users have plummeted since its peak, and the lack of a feed strictly filled with accounts a user follows has turned some people off (Meta insists that’s in the works).

I see this take a lot, especially from the blue checks crying that Elmo was going to destroy democracy by letting everyone buy a check. I feel it's overstated because 90-95% of the world doesn't use the platform and won't. It's like firing people who never worked for you.

But others pop up in their place soon enough, and at one point, people will coalesce around one of them. It's like spending billions to put a dam made of twigs in front of a raging flood. The dam might stop the flood for a very short while, but not for long.

I tend toward Occam's Razor on this. Elon is a mega-rich failson who only has money because his daddy stole wealth from South Africans and passed that wealth on to him. Elon's always been dumb, always will be dumb, and will fail at anything he does where there aren't other, smarter people around to counter his failed ideas. Peter Thiel is evil, but he's not dumb, which explains Musk being ejected from PayPal at high speed.

Plus I keep on saying it over and over, Mohammed bin Salman and the Saudis have invested billions into Musk's takeover because Elon persuaded them to give him money for finance. Yes, the Royal Family has a ton of money... but for the other brehs, your telling me that MbS just said to Elon, "Take $10 Billion and destroy Twitter. I don't want any money in return."

MbS is the 2nd Biggest Stakeholder in X.
