East Coast rap died off because of these reasons:

1. The South invasion of 2004-2008

2. Sampling becoming expensive which forced a lot of east coast producers to fall back. Why go to Pete Rock when u can go to Swizz Beatz?

3. Infighting within the East(that’s always been a thing since the Bridge Wars)

Nas vs Jay-Zee: Queens vs Brooklyn…

Nas blew the Camel and his squad off the map

Fabulous vs Mase

Dipset vs Tru Life/Roc

The Lox vs State Property

50 Cent vs the heavyweights in NYC
(Fat Joe, Nas, Jay Zee, D-Block, Shyne, etc)

Mobb Deep vs Jay-Z vs Nas

Nas vs Cam’ron

Canibus vs LL

Jay was cool with the South before it became a trend down the line and Ball & MJG were the cats down South to do a feature with Bad Boy

Gene just wants to blame Diddy and Jay

I never watch Gene Deal interviews, but having Pop Smoke in the screenshot caught my interest so I watched it....

His point about Pop Smoke seemed like straight tinfoil hat babble.....

Side note :mjlol: at someone in the comment section saying the powers than be took down bum ass Troy Ave.

Troy Ave is eating INDY

Tax stone and Troy are two big dummies though.

One is stupid for letting the other dummy trick em outta position.

Tax Season would have been bigger by now

Daryl is stupid and Troy Ave is stupid for feeding into it

I dont think they were given a assignment.

But given these two personality traits they have shown over the decades I can def see them intentionally ignoring/not cosigning/ putting younger artist on and in a position to blow or surpass em. They like being the big dogs of the east.

These two definitely aint no Dr. Dre or Baby ill tell ya that much :pachaha:

Between those two , they definitely blackballed and stifled a lot of careers in NY hip hop as gatekeepers, neglected the talent among the youth while the south and the west coast ogs embraced the new wave of talent and gave them legs to stand on .. I agree with the premise but gene didn’t explain it well

I know we love hip-hop and all that but all that "backroom, covert, by design" shyt is giving so much credit to a system that has clearly shown that it's just not that sophisticated. We've gotten plenty of looks behind the curtain to know and understand that shyt that happens is never some plan by the powers that be. Its just shyt that happens. All these big conglomerates that actually own the entertainment industry usually see music/ movies as a "loss leader". Shyt is baked in, like on some we know we gonna get sued for something, but we're making so much money, how much can we afford to payout 10 yrs down the line. And they will pay a pittance of a few hundred million after they've made hundreds of billions. Business is Business, it can look contrived at times but mostly its just all in the game.

Jay don't dictate rap never did. Wasn't no innovator or trend setter. He just was a elite MC that had a great ear for beats and rode trends good.

nikka tried to dead autotune and shyt on melodic rap for it only exploded more after and took over rap sound :deadrose:

Top tier jay song though.
