The fact that with all the shyt that went down this summer, the music doesn't reflect it is telling. All we got was a half assed Lil Baby song and WAP. Ain't a soldier amongst this new breed

probably because what happened "this summer" has been happening and nearly everybody i listen to does it on a regular so no need to do it to be in line with whats trending. plenty of conscious artists and songs these days. this was literally played live on tv when biden won :russ: a few years old but still most relevant this last year.

They expanded past simple rap. I know people have the tendency to hate but thats just typical for older generations to hate the newer. But these new artist I feel push boundaries of rap and are way more creative with the art (maybe not so much on subject matter). Artist now rap, use auto tune, low key sing, incorporate alternative flows, styles, beats, rhyme styles. If you look back at the 90’s and 2000’s it was the same kinda gangsta rap battle rap punchline ish flow. Now I feel like artist or more like musicians than just rappers.

They're not my cup of tea and I don't agree with their worldview. But I would say females mcs like Cardi and Meg dominate charts as a whole more then the past. It's not a wait your turn, 1 at a time for females to exist in a space.

Meg and cardi gonna have top 20 songs in that space. They not in my 20 but still

Yep. Today's rappers are much more versatile. They can talk about more topics, while using a wide variety of flows.
If you listen to a lot of 90s albums especially late 90s. They all have the same formula

10 tracks of drug dealing and killing raps( couple of songs needed a singer)

2 songs for the ladies( had to have a female R&B singer)

1 song on how the world should be better( needed a singer)

1 song for momma(needed a singer)

Albums now are so much more cohesive because artist don’t have to reach and make music they’re not comfortable making and they don’t have to get completed songs from the label where they are just filling in 16s

This era is a lot worse IMO

Yeah, the late 90s was when formula style albums (everyone trying their own 1 CD version of "Life After Death") came to being, but this era is BS. Careers start and end in a period of a few months is not the wave.

U old nikkas being disingenuous if u not acknowledging rappers nowadays are far more versatile

that’s in credit to rappers like Kanye who pioneered and adapted with changing times and influenced a whole generation

I hope u guys understand by saying Gen Z rap is trash u are giving your Generation responsibility for not influencing the youth :unimpressed:
