The fact that with all the shyt that went down this summer, the music doesn't reflect it is telling. All we got was a half assed Lil Baby song and WAP. Ain't a soldier amongst this new breed
This is bullshyt

damn near everyone made songs about the times. There’s threads on it

Meld with the beat?

Most of the more popular rappers today are great at harmonizing with more "poppy" beats, and blending their flow with the beat. Some great examples are Gunna, Lil Uzi Vert, and Lil Baby. Trippie Redd is another one.

They're great at blending more melancholic topics (like depression, drug use, suicide, etc.) into hard-hitting songs, which is one of the reasons why the shyt that they say goes over so many heads. Juice, Mac Miller and Lil Peep all rapped about addiction and such, yet it still came as a surprise when they died.
Anybody can do that, literally, my whole thing is, if these guys are genuinely making this music with hardly any effort, and we know they aren't because the comprehension level is lower elementary, then can we really say theyre great at it? More like they follow the formula and get chose

They don’t need Mariah Carey, R Kelly or Even Chris Brown or Beyoncé in order to make a song accessible outside of their core fans
Yep. Today's rappers are much more versatile. They can talk about more topics, while using a wide variety of flows.

They don't do shyt better and that is sad because things are supposed to improve.
and dude talking about harmonizing no they using autotune the right way lol

Cats cannot comprehend a lyrical song anymore. A track like Wu Tang's "Triumph" would never leave the studio, much less be an international hit in 2021 :mindblown:

some of these artist make more enjoyable and accessible music without sounding corny as opposed to some in the past.

hooks are also better.

Of course anyone can. Hell, I could rap like Jay-Z or Ghostface, but it doesn't mean that I can do it on their level. I chose three rappers that I felt were the best at it.

And imitation has always been a thing in art, and classical hip-hop wasn't exempt from that. History just doesn't remember those kats.

the topics are the same

but they def have the ability to not rely on a singer like those prior did. And those who didnt use it sung the hook themselves

im a nas fan, but sometimes i find his hook on "Gimme Yours" pretty cringey. I have to be in a certain mood to like it.
