Sometimes I'm in a gaming mood, and I just want to listen to somebody talk about videogames.
Here's a thread to share suggestions of that kind.

DesignDoc discusses various aspects of game design in a palatable manner. He has a series called "Good Design, Bad Design" that is dope and highlights some successes and missteps of an array of different games in terms of graphic design. I often get introduced to new games to add to my backlog.

NewFramePlus is a professional animator that dives into just his domain of expertise: videogame animation, through multiple series and standalone breakdowns that cover the way pictures move in Final Fantasy, Sonic, and basically any game there is. High-quality videos with pretty-to-look-at editing and very interesting information.

Adam Millard - The Architect of Games is a game critic that touches on various topics related to game design. Pretty good

videogamedunkey has been at it for a while. Short snappy humorous videos and passionate reviews alike, from completely sarcastic pranks to dead serious, he does it all.

Farlands Design Den is a game developer that reviews videogames. Pretty straightforward, except he designed his own rating system, the Stasocritic system, that he uses in tandem with the insight brought by experience to evaluate the games, and the result is pretty dope. He's going through a pretty large backlog of oldies and classics but modern titles also made their way under his scrutiny.

FUNKe focuses on FPS (he covers plenty other stuff too) at a frenetic rhythm, and even though he doesn't post often, it's always very interesting to see. I don't know how he animates his stuff, but the result is eye-catching to say the least.

Etra Games works on how to teach games to non-gamers, and I gotta say, the topic is rather fascinating. His videos detail his project of creating games that'll teach game literacy and follow his trials and tribulations on this journey. He rebooted his channel, so here's the new one.

Razbuten comments on diverse topics related to gaming, and even though his arguments sometimes miss me, the topics he chooses are always interesting. He has a great series where he initiates the woman he lives with to various games.

Daryl Talks Games studies psychology and how its concepts relate to gaming experiences. Even though some of it sometimes seems fake deep to me, the more grounded videos are amazing.

Finally (for now), Sakurai himself joined the battle with his own ad-free channel, dedicated to explaining gaming concepts to aspiring developers or anyone it could interest.

On the music side, here are some recommendations:

Scruffy analyzes some technical aspects of music and sound implementation in games and the effects it produces on the listener. It's always clear, interesting and very well edited and animated. He also shares his own renditions of classical game music.

Alex Moukala Music is an energetic composer that does many things: reacting to and breaking down classics of game music, rewriting and playing them in different styles, gathering other creators on youtube to produce larger pieces... He even has in depth interviews of legendary game music writers, and does some of the things previously mentioned with anime as well.

Even if Tim de Man is covering Zelda's extensive library more often than not, his takes on its themes (and others) are fantastic. He mainly uses the piano but plays many other instruments, among which the mouth trumpet, that he adds to his renditions from time to time, and also indulges in livestreams twice a month on youtube where he just plays whatever you recommend in the chat. His speculations and improvisations are elite.

8-Bit Music Theory betray their names by covering more than 8-bit music. They breakdown game soundtracks from many eras using musical theory and teaching relevant concepts. It gets technical.

Big fan of Raycevick and Noah Caldwell Gervais. Been following them for years.

Noah is crazy, breh did an 8 hour RE franchise retrospective...it's good though. He's just 100% dedicated to longform content/video essays.

I checked out some videos from Noah Caldwell Gervais (Watch Dogs, Dead Space) and I like what he does. It's pretty interesting. I wish visuals served his words better when he talks about movies and other games, even if I get that it's probably supposed to be listened to and not necessarily watched.

After unsubscribing to nearly all gaming channels, I've recently subscribed to Gmanlives. His reviews seem to closely match my perception of and taste in games. Plus dude is funny.
