Great video game, but amateur storytelling. I have a much larger explanation in the TLOU2 review thread

Edit:

8/10

fantastic voice acting, level design, animation, graphics

Felt the story was poorly executed and had excessive human combat gameplay loop that completely desensitize the narrative themes and it's moments. Excessive flashblacks. Weak pacing due to poorly executed narrative. I felt the game needed way more isolation and sorrow in the 2nd half to really settle the emotional weight. The nonlinear narrative felt very contrived and gimmicky that does a lot of forced sympathy. The game completely steps away from the foundation of the original game which was based on realism. It completely abandon all the rules in the 1st game. So, tt felt more like a Walking Dead Episode than the Last of Us. They write these characters in a way that completely lacks any survival instinct that was paramount in the 1st game to facilitate a forced narrative.

It makes for a great casual experience, but Neil wanted to do a complex narrative.Yet, He completely half ass everything. I like complex narrative driven games, but it created multiple points of failure that Neil completely failed to noticed or didn't care. Spec Ops: The Line is my favorite complex narrative, and it has soo much more weight/gravity/meaning in it's message than this game with half the gore and extreme violence.SO, I'm just more disappointed that the story was so mediocre than it being bad. It was just okay. They didn't take the extra work to make it great. Which I felt is inexcusable. The game's story needed more rewrites and refinement. Neil having complete unchecked creative control set him up to indulge in his flaws

Doom Eternal
Fire Emblem Three Houses (Did a playthrough using all the DLC characters)
Dragon Quest 11 S
Xenoblade Chronicles DE

I'll probably start with The Witcher 3 tonight. I missed out on it when it originally came out since I wasn't gaming at the time. So this will be interesting.

FF7 Remake
Trials of Mana
Ghost of Tsushima
Legend of Zelda Links Awakening remake

Hopefully I'll have Octopath and Persona 5 Royal finished before I go back to work, but with my priority being Octopath since I already beat Persona 5 vanilla I doubt I finish either one since they both so fukking long.
