They cut Jaehaerys II from the family tree. In Game of Thrones, Maester Aemon says the Mad King is the son of Egg, meaning Jaehaerys II didn't exist as a king. GRRM apparently let the new showrunners know that he hated this change and wanted them to somehow fix it.

With the Targs, they’re like a b*stardized version of the British royal family and IRL, they go back 1200 years. I did research into the Targ family tree out of curiosity and was surprised that it’s not really that long of a backstory basically Aegon conquers Westeros, his son struggles to maintain it being too nice, his other son is too cruel, his grandson Jaehaerys was perfect, the king you read about in children’s stories. Then Viserys set the realm on fire with his decision to pick a girl heir. Then they lose their dragons. Then Aegon IV, a generation later sets the realm on fire again legitimizing all his b*stards. Daeron II is a good king. Brings Dorne into the fold. Then Maekar kills his own brother and becomes King, which allows Aegon V (Egg), to become King, who dies at the fire of Summerhall. And lastly, Jaehaerys II, Egg’s son, has a vision of the TPTWP, which we know was passed down from king to heir, and forces Aerys to marry his sister. And then Aerys becomes hateful, paranoid and crazy, gets kidnapped, which exacerbates those traits and everything we know from GOT happens. Their reign was not that long really.
