He should’ve married Laena after his first wife died. It was the best for the realm (it would have ended the rift between the two greatest houses caused by his own ascension) and it was the best for him (would have given him time to grieve his first wife’s death as Laena came of age).

People keep saying this but it’s not true. If he marries Laena and has a boy the exact same situation plays out. Sure maybe there’s no Otto to manipulate him but the realm is still not gonna respect Rhaenyra’s claim.

I think it was a plot to fake his death from the beginning. Daemon specifically told him to make sure there was a witness. So that there is someone to corroborate the lie
