No its based off a twoish year portion of that book. ASOIAF is written in characters perspectives. This book is just an overview of the history of the targaryns. And some wild shyt happens in those two years. Its gonna be a fun ride.

edit:also GOT had 3 dragons this shyt could have as many as 18 and by the end of the show there will be hardly any. Its a 2 year war with targs fighting targs.
