I have never read the books or watched the show yet. For those that have read the books and seen the show as well, which do you feel is better?

Books are better b/c things are fleshed out more (that's the usual with books to tv/movie adaption). The show does a great job though. Don't wanna spoiler you but the show does surpass the books (in timeline) by season 5. Some things that happen from this season forward haven't happened in the books yet so the show sorta takes a hit in quality.

Books.

With a few exceptions the last few seasons of GoT are pretty mediocre to lowkey trash. The low points of the show are way worse than the low points of the books.

Ed Sheeran doesn't show up in the books.

Oh, the books are far better than the show. That being said, the first four seasons of the show are great for what they are and I'd definitely recommend that you watch. It wasn't until season 5 that the show took a serious dip in quality. They've been getting by on spectacle ever since.

Books. Only thing I like better in the show is some characters getting more screen time and character development like Tywin, Cercei and Robb. Also Jon being a better fighter is cool too.

I also like the battle scenes obviously as they cant be replicated as well in written form. Obviously the acting has mostly been fantastic

However after season 3 there was a sharp decline in show quality and the plot holes and inconsistent writing is too difficult to ignore.

I also felt the books gave far more of a horror vibe than the show as Martin is first and foremost a horror/science fiction writer.

Books....and it's really not close. The show though the first 4 seasons did a good job of adapting the story from the books, but really fell off the rails starting with season 5. The books have a much more elaborate and complex story to tell with Varys and Illyrio plotting to get a Blackfyre/Targaryen (young Griff) on the throne, the Dornish and the Iron Born trying to get to Daenerys to see who can marry her and seize Westeros, and the Stannis storyline...which is superb in the books, but completely mishandled in the show.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show for what it is....an adaptation. However, if it's one or the other...the books easily win that discussion.

Keep in mind, if you venture into reading the novels, you're looking at roughly 1,100 pages, small print, each book. They're long, but will absolutely keep you engaged from start to finish.

Books. Though even if you watch the show first you'll still be able to enjoy the books cause there's way more detail and a ton of characters/plot the show just either barely mentions or erases. But the books are better than the show even though the show is great.

Are the books disturbing or disgusting in anyway?
