This is a really simple thread. Would you rather have a game manager type quaterback Ala Alex Smith and you don't have to pay him an absurd amount of money and build a great balance team around them and perrenally in playoff and superbowl contention

or a 4000 thousand yard passing quaterback that is the sole sole focus of your team with perennial 7-9, 8-8 records and missing the playoffs every season. But at least they put off great stats tho :francis:

Sticking to the thread you want the gunslinger who's going to give the plays that make you :blessed: but occasionally make you :upsetfavre:

That game manager gonna give you only what's given and he's not going to take chances and 9 times out of 10 that's not going to win you a ring...unless you have that standout defense who can put points up for you or give you great field position.

Judging by your avi and the very specific scenario you laid out for a gunslinger I think you might be referencing someone in particular as the gunslinger but I can't put my finger on who it may be :patrice: :russ: @Ain't That Something

Alex Smith is considered a game manager while Aaron Rodgers can be considered a gunslinger. So give me the latter all day everyday. With the pure thrower you know he can win you some games and maybe even a title or two if everything falls right. If you have a game manager you may go to the playoffs like the Chiefs but you may be sitting at home like the Jets too.

Game managers have won rings before but they had elite defenses. Look at Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson. Somebody like Alex Smith wont win a ring this year cuz he doesn't have a defense like that. He wont lose a game for you but he wont win one either

Perfect example is that 2012 NFC Championship game 49ers vs Giants. Alex Smith wasn't bad, but didn't contribute enough for a possible 49ers win

Well considering the OP already said the game manager is on a perennial SB contender and the gunslinger is on a perennial .500 team, then of course I'd rather take the game manager scenario. You already told me the results :heh:

But if I didn't know the results ahead of time, or anything else about the team around them, and my only options were a gunslinger who didn't like checkdowns and a game manager who rarely took risks, then give me the gunslinger. As a fan, when you have a QB who is a playmaker, you always feel like you are in the game.

Game managers are great when you dominate the trenches on both sides, but if you get down early, that's a bad place to be.
