Yeah. I know she was in a failed R&B group. :prodigylol:

If it wasn't for Lauryn, she would have continued as a writer for R&B groups.

Lauryn gave her a style for her to run with :ahh:

no pies no case
Just garbage bag suits

well...maybe a couple pies :prodigylol:

Missy dropped her debut a full year before Lauryn and it wasn't just the rapping/singing that made Missy's album standout. Missy made the two interchangeable.

What do you think about the impact of Vol 2 Hard Knock Life though? Game changer? He officially established himself as a monster in the mainstream at that point. To me that was the beginning of bragging about going platinum and multi. Artists were taking out ads in the Source letting folks know how many units were pushed. The beginning of street music meets the club with minimal complaints from the boom bap purists.

I might be reaching a bit, but I think an argument can be made that the hook on Hard Knock was the prototype (at least one of considering Rza's work) to certain forms of sampling that became popular later on down the line. It kinda reminded me of Biz singing on Just a Friend, but with the original vocals. Nursery rhyme hooks became the go to for a increasingly dumb it down public.
Yea I can see that

Redman should be credited for all the Eminem run... so I guess you can say he changed the game in a way...
plus he influenced all that Hopsin-genre style of rappers :sas1:

There's levels of impact tho. An album like The Score had a huge impact but it didn't really do much to change the genre

what type of impact did the score have?

and i honestly cant see one without the other, because if an alleged game changing album isnt recognized by most people, then why should it get aknowledged as a game changing album in the 1st place?

Check out Kris Kross, JD, Da Brat (1st album), Lil Bow Wow if you want influence of Snoop's debut. Doggystyle was a worldwide hit, not only in the US, prolly close to diamond at this point

Well Country Grammar helped make southern/midwest slang/slurr more accepted, and had a specific poprap formula that many copied (New No Limit...)
For real, up to that point Doggystyle was the biggest rap album EVER. My older brother is from Brooklyn but he said every NY cat his age (teens) wanted to be Snoop. There's this old picture of him with my cousin from that time and my cousin has the full Snoop look lmao, big ass afro and the flannel shirt.

The Score made the Fugees household names. Remember their first album? It had a couple dope singles but came and went. Without The Score you get no Lauryn Hill solo, you get no Wyclef solo, and Pras damn sure doesn’t make Ghetto Superstar
