You all should probably start focusing on Derrick Rose and his rape case. No one is really talking about Nate Parker anymore :yeshrug:
Derrick Rose isn't an actor or filmaker with a movie about a Slave rebellion coming out in theatres internationally though. He's a basketball player. What correlation does that have with Nate?

You aren't seeing the big picture (like everyone else) and this is kind of what irks me about the coli.

like someone else said white society playing chess...we're still playing checkers.

We're talking about a case that's almost 20 years old...they are doing their best to sabotage the theatrical release of this film. They don't want empowering or eye openkng entertainment for black people. They don't want us learning our history. They don't want us questioning this society and this motives. They want us to continue to be asleep at the wheel as we head towards a cliff.

I stand by everything I've said thus far.

I do not and will not support a rapist. I don't prioritize the public image and ego of Nate Parker or rapists of any color, over the safety of women.

I'm thrilled that many Black people will boycott all of Nate Parker's future work.

Brock Turner raped a woman and got off easy. Nate Parker raped a woman and also got off easy.

Both of them, regardless of what they go on to do in the future, are not worth respect.

will you be boycotting all the paedophille/rapist movie execs in hollywood too? :jbhmm:

I don't think an actual rape victim looking at some of the things that went on with the case and feeling how she feels needs to be chalked up to someone putting her up to it, I'm sure those are genuine feelings.

People like to laugh at terms like "rape culture" and call them buzzwords when the reality is that violence, particularly sexual violence is something that has been normalized not just in American culture but around the world...the fact that a lot of these situations show that the men in question didn't set out to "rape" or consider what they did at the time to be sketchy shows you that it's less about malicious intent and more about the conditioning and culture surrounding the events that lead to so many of these incidents.

Do I think the timing of this rape charge getting press is an accident? fukk no...but it happened..he himself was apologetic and some of the details of the case definitely point to something foul going down whether you want to classify it as rape or not. I don't agree with him being singled out or people using this as a means to derail the movie but it is what it is. I'm not about to ask a rape victim to sit on her feelings to protect somebody who admittedly did something questionable.

:upsetfavre::smugfavre::skip:white folks probably laughing they fukking asses off reading forums and websites like this one based on this situation.

They won. They got the black public to argue about something irrelevant and not worthwhile like children while they do they're best to set black people collectively back in every way possible.

"But Nate Parker was found not guilty!":childplease:
"OH REALLY? YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?":usure:
:smugdraper:game set match.
*Theatres all over the world now are no longer playing "Birth Of A Nation"*
*movie is pulled from rotation except for a small number of theatres in major cities.
*film does not recoup its budget*
*destined to become Netflix status and urban legend*
*the conversation stops there.*

@cam> this is bigger than nate parker....

The powers that be know the impact that a film like this can have at a racially charged climate like this one on black folks. They couldn't attack the content of the film or it's premise cause it's based on historicak events...so they had to go for the individuals behind it.

These are the same people holding us back....and denying us everything possible under the sun.

They know more about us than us.
They use it against us.

this is what I have been saying.

I was talking to an older black guy at my job about Nat Turner. He had no idea who he was. I gave him a brief summary and told him about the movie. I told him he should also do some research to really learn the significance of the man and he should also see the movie. He told me he wasn't interested and he's not going to see the movie. Had nothing to do with Nate Parker and his past and everything to do with a lack of interest.

Those who want to see the movie will see it and not allow this controversy to overshadow what they want to get from it and those that couldn't care less will continue not to and nothing will change that.

And the black community will continue as it's been. Filled with those who care and those who don't :yeshrug:

I don't discount that these rape allegations made it back into headlines because Nate's film is not as white-friendly as his films usually are.

It was one of my first thoughts when this news hit.

I mean, it's never been a secret, but it hasn't been nationally reported since it happened. I did question why now.

My suspicions as to why this became news, do not override the facts of Nate's actions of his own confessions. Those suspicions do not override the fact that I will never support a rapist.

I read what I could on the case, the transcripts, I read Nate's interviews and statements, I read the commentary of Nate's college friends, and I read Black opinions that span a spectrum.

And the bottom line is, I will never support a rapist.

He could be as musically talented as R Kelly, I don't support rapists.
He could be a brilliant director like Polanski, I don't support rapists.
Nate Parker could be Nat Turner himself, I don't support rapists.
