A dozen GAAS games shut down in a week and Meach is comparing it to one single-player game getting mediocre reviews. :mjlol:
There’s literally HUNDREDS of games releasing every day. 99% of them flop.

There’s another dozen GAAS games that found an audience and are doing just fine.

fukk are y’all even trying to say in here??

The difference is when GAAS games are gone. Everything is gone. You literally cannot play the game anymore.

its a half assed argument that literally only flies on message boards

GAAS extends the life of a title FAR beyond what's normal :mjlol: that community stuff and content drip attaches players to shyt that would normally get red boxed or returned or never tried at all. "you can't play it anymore" sounds impactful only under the lens that games all get the same spin and traction in the first place

this goes back years. little shyt like Vanquish having a leaderboard - even that pushes life further. where do yal think achievements came from. its the same thought process. GaaS just ties extended developer bandwidth to player feedback. i'd be shocked if even a third of people complaining about GaaS could all agree on what is and isn't under the GaaS umbrella anymore.

I’m using the qualifier of “Seasons” when it comes to GAAS, or battle pass type shyt.

Use Destiny for example. If that game was shut down (brought offline) there would be 0 way to play it. I’ve purchased all the dlcs and whatnot with no way to play.

Very few of these GAAS have any type of offline component.

Majority of stuff on Gamepass is not GAAS.

That kinda goes against the idea of gamepass. FTP games don’t need a subscription service they are already free :stopitslime:

Wrong - a sub service fits in perfectly with the concept of GAAS games, and Phil Spencer has gone on repeatedly about the opportunities for smaller projects AND GAAS for gamepass.

Services with supposedly "high" engagement want to maximise micro-transaction and battlepass stuff.

that whole "we had 10m players the first week" remind me of all of these tech start ups looking for funding. Due to the price to make larger full priced games, it might the only option for some developers.

Another thing is with a lot of games shifting to Gamepass and PS+ I'm assuming there needs to be a secondary from of monetization to break even.
I was the commercial banker for a very prominent developer you all have talked about, and they were pursuing a mobile game, GAAS model. They walked away from it after rliek $2-3mm investment because their user base plummeted after like 4 weeks. The 2 or 3 prior they were absolutely gangbusters but there is an unpredictable formula to keep users engaged. It would've been a sunk cost idt they continued so they bailed. They used those resources to another tentpole IP and that was a hit.

GAAS is very fickle and if you dont KEEP users engaged you are DEAD.

Lies.

Looking back at the last 6 months or so. I can’t think of one GAAS that was released to gamepass.

Sony stans are so wild, I've played dozens of games on mobile and PC games that once the server was shutdown that was it.
Multiplayer or "single player" it doesn't matter. This isn't nothing new, this is just a thing that sony does bad so yall are excited to see a bunch of games that do it get shut down.
I knew when I say sony stans cheering gaas flopping on twitter yall would be cheering here too.

People actually have been talking about big single player new IP’s flopping lately. Gotham Knights, Mario & Rabbids, Callisto Protocol, Forspoken, Midnight Suns, etc. you just haven’t been paying attention.

Tiny Tina, Saints Row, Midnight Suns, Mario + Rabbids, Two Point Campus

:stopitslime:

Those are games are all middle size niche games . Even saints row is niche within it's genre. Those are games that will do ok to well with time not out the gate.

These dude just be talking

I’m not celebrating anything. I put more time into destiny and path of exile than any other games I play.

I’m saying I’d rather most of these games have an offline component so when the game falls off I can still play them somehow.
