Honestly BOTH of these last two projects were "weaker" to me than DS2 alone (I felt that album RODE all the way thru, a classic imo) but that's not to say I didn't purchase, grab and enjoy bangers from BOTH of these last two projects. I'm a REAL fan. And what that means is I Fucc with artists expressiveness and creativity and them pushing their limits and boundaries. This is what music and art is about. And I'm enjoying the fuccin ride.
DS2 is a classic in any genre but this EVOL could be up there. I loved honest but this (love in reverse) is a complete rejection of where he was on that.
This is my take:
Monster/56 nights/Beast Mode kind of stand on their own, they are shorter in length and 10/10 but have one direction. They are true mixtapes.
Purple Reign/WATTBA are more promo. Have some dope music but arent true future releases. They would be most guys best mixtapes still, but exist outside of the "story".
Now, the 3 albums, Honest,DS2 and EVOL, are 10/10 and probably the best three albums we have seen in the 2010s any genre. Honest shows how creative and different his sound could be, embracing happiness and money and success, melody and all that. He was clearly in a high place of success and love. Until the 45k first week. I was one of the 45k, but it was a failure, even though it should have been his biggest successes. This is what created the monster that went on the 3 peat.
DS2 came at a low point. Yea, he was "hot", but his last album was a flop at that point. There were hundreds of drug references, and throphy wives were replaced by freak hoes. He captured depressed drug addiction perfectly with that album. He was never supposed to be here, this shyt was supposed to be a drought you know?
EVOL may be the best yet. He combined the high of honest with the grit of DS2. Future has surpassed Kanye West as the greatest contemporary artist.
