He could have been up there but never put in the work on the music side. These other rappers from NY wasn't getting fashion magazine spreads and interviews in those types of places. They weren't doing shows in france and italy when asap was. When asap got locked up, Trump got him out. Now imagine if he was actually dropping albums like that behind all that press. I'm not saying he could be drake, kendrick and cole.. But lets not act like he wasn't talked about with them when it all started. It's like this nikka don't want to rap

Lets change this to detroit. The detroit sound was established in the mid 00s evolving from the early 00s rappers like the chedda boyz and street lordz etc. The examples of the detroit sound that is heavily supported by detroit are peezy, icewear vezzo, payroll, babyface ray, etc

But detroit still showed love to big sean because of him generally being dope and loved nationally. Should Detroit have not embraced big sean because he didnt rap like “the sound”? Kind of shooting yourself in the foot. Yeah they hope vezzo or payroll or ray blows like big sean but ASAP Really didnt get crowned like imo he should’ve.

Again, i’ll defer to Nyers but it seems like yall want something that can’t be.

A$AP Rocky got embraced. Probably gets as much love as Big Sean in Detroit.

The problem is that in NYC and Detroit street music is #1. Rocky music had street-isms and was street adjacent at times but it wasn’t all the way street.

That’s why in the early 10’s someone like French Montana was getting way more love and play in the town compared to an A$AP Rocky or Joey Bada$$.

Coke Boyz movement was stronger than A$AP Mob and Pro Era.

A$AP Rocky also never really made mainstream bangers you only hear him on mainstream type shyt on his features. His music was always experimental and it only got more so as his career went on.
