I remember. I was just coming out of high school that summer the purple tape dropped. But 96 was just a lil different

I was in NYC Visiting in 95 and just hearing Wu,Mobb,Nas and BIG bumping all around in The Summer was :banderas::wow:so I have to put it up there wit the GOAT Years but Summer 96 definitely took it to another level wit its share of Piff

Can’t forget about the clubs from that era: The Tunnel, Essos, Carbon, Palladium, Nells etc

One thing that sticks out to me about this era was how far ahead songs hit the radio before their official releases. Daytona 500 ain't drop as a single til October '96 but it already hit the streets at least a whole 3 months beforehand.
Sometimes they would drop a whole year before the album dropping

Mixtapes played a big part in that.

Most albums from that era, by the time they dropped, I knew half the album by heart already due to album cuts being on mixtapes

Meanwhile my generation (millenial) is so spoiled we were freaking the fukk out and getting heated when we realized we'd already heard 90% of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy when the tracklist dropped :russ:
