Critically it was dumped on at the time and it didn't help that Bill Murray trashed it every chance he got and that the other cast members and the director admitted they phoned it in. And it wasn't as big of a success but that's what happens when you drop the same summer as batman, the last crusade, and lethal weapon 2
It's the point I'm always making about it. Cats act like this female version is going to ruin something that was already a tad tarnished lol. Fans have always been the same. It's different for those of us who were kids in 89 but if you were grown you thought this shyt was trash.

Back to the Future 2 also dropped in 89 (although I don't think that it was in the summer). 1989 might have been the first big year of sequels now that I think about it.

Vigo should have been a better villain easily. They could have made Vigo some sort of cult leader with followers all over the city instead of dude working at the museum

It was the same thing for me til i got older. 80s babies caught the sequels then had to back track. The 1st star wars i saw was return of the jedi so imagine my face when i went back and saw the first 2
they did seem to play GB2 on TV more than 1. Seen both, but have seen 2 more just because it played more.
