The study finds that undocumented immigrants contributed $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes in 2022 – a number that would rise dramatically if these taxpayers were granted work authorization.






According to available data, undocumented immigrants generally receive very limited government aid, primarily accessing emergency medical care through Medicaid and sometimes utilizing school lunch programs for their children, but are largely ineligible for most federal benefits due to their immigration status, meaning the overall amount of aid they receive is significantly lower than the average citizen; estimates suggest that undocumented immigrants may utilize a small percentage of overall welfare spending, with some studies placing it around 4% of total welfare costs
