Well you have to know that something exists before you support it.

Tyler Perry has a built in fan base because of his plays. Also Perry's movies are promoted pretty heavily.

The better made black films typically get little promotion unless it has a notable white actor in it. Even if it gets that promotion they ONLY promote it to black people.

Like I said I've seen this movie getting tons of buzz but only at film festivals and on the internet. It looks like something that should be released when the other "awards show bait" films get released, but they're releasing this movie on July 16, that's two days after Man of Steel comes out...They've effectively buried any chance the movie had.

This will be good movie but I feel it won't reach the audience like its supposed to and I know that my black brethren wont support this like they should. But I hope that I am pleasantly surprised and they cone out in droves.

This kid got a development deal and scripts being thrown at him left and right. Which is good. The last few black directors/writers who had groundbreaking festival films have been forced into directing television.

I didn't think the director did a good enough job explaining Boyd hated people so much he went through with murdering randoms.

It's fukked up, because the movie has been heavily praised and it's a film that could have taken Michael B Jordan aka Wallace aka Vince Howard to that next level.


It really makes no fukking sense for them to release the film in the middle of the summer blockbuster season. shyt shouldn't be released till November or December.

It actually makes a lot of sense. Weinstein released Beasts of The Wild the same time last year, giving it plenty of time to build steam word of mouth, get on more screens, and eventually become Oscar material. He's hoping to so the same with this.

I'll be supporting, even if I have to travel to see it on the screen. I went to high school with the director, super good guy. And Micheal B Jordan was great in Friday Night Lights and The Wire, dude seems to actually care about acting.

The movie about Oscar Grant. The movie has already won awards at Sundance and other film festivals. It's gon be a tear jerker tho. I know the ending and I'll probably still shed a tear when I go see it. Here's the trailer

there's obviously important issues, like the use of deadly force, that can be discussed within the context of this tragedy

to be fair, I haven't seen it. it just seems weird turning a recent tragedy into a 'drama' or whatever

...what the hell are you talking about? There doesn't have to be a lesson for a movie to be made - anyone can make a movie for any reason they want. What matters is if it is well made or not.
