Ah word, I figured y'all meant some california arts thing but wasn't 100%...
i still don't get it fully though as i don't understand the stigma about them here... peace
Elaborate. What is Cal Arts? I already don't like it for Toucan Sam. Leave that parrot alone.
CalArts is short for The California Institute of The Arts. That art school produces a lot of the talent behind american animation, whether it's TV or Disney/Pixar. Walt Disney practically co founded the school as good artists and animators were becoming hard to find and train and his animators were getting old with no one to replace them.
TV animation, globally, is very cheap. animation budgets are very limited, studios copy successful things and designs. The "calarts" style is the current trend in american cartoons probably popularized by very popular shows like Adventure Time, Gumball and more recently, Steven Universe. Basically:
Personally, I don't watch a lot of american cartoons and I'm not a particular fan of the current "calarts" style of designs but it's funny when people call things "calarts shyt" when in some cases, there are no calarts alumni involved.
