Had some fruity looking dudes at a blockbuster 2 years ago try to recruit me. They looked like they were on something or brainwashed. I wanted to laugh everytime that they asked if I believed in mother earth. People who fall for this are the same type of people who fall for Nigerian scams.

Speech from arrested development tried to recruit me into a cult in Tower Records back in the late 90s. It was pathetic. I wanted to recruit him to unconciousness.

He ain't Ice Cube, but would've had to knock you out for being rude. It would've took 3 or 4 cops to pull him off of you.

All religion is equally ridiculous. It is so funny to me that people who believe in talking snakes make fun of others for believing a giant spaceship is coming. If you're into ANY religion, you may as well go ahead and give a pass to every other one.

Either all that s*** is true or none of it is.

Sooooooooooo... think about how easily someone would be able to talk you out of Christianity into Vodun. They could bring a stack of books two stories high and you wouldn't even LISTEN to a word they had to say. This is exactly the reaction your friend is going to have. It's VERY arrogant fo you to think it's your job to go around checking people for this kind of thing.

My cousin is a Jehova's Witness I met her for the first time when I was about 30. Every single time I ever talked to her for the first year she lead off with tryig to convert me. I got sick of it. Not really mad about her faith, just that I am her cousin and we eventually should be getting around to actually talking to each other instead of this s***. One time I responded to one of her solicits with "Actually, I was thinkign that YOU are on the wrong path. I would like to convince you to quit your church and join mine". Even though this was the EXACT same speech she gave me dozens of times, she was PISSED that I would even suggest such a thing. Shut her up though. My sister (who I met as an adult too) is like this. She spends so much time kicking it to me about what she belives but has zero respect for what I believe unless it jibes with her doctrine. "You can't say that to me becuase I believe this" My reply: "F*** you. I can say what I want to you because I BELIEVE this other thing".

Just control where you go. Let him go wherever he wants. We Christians are actually the most dangerous group on this planet. Iraq and Afghanistan wars are Crusades plain and simple. We been fighting that s*** for over 1000 years.

I never said it's my job to do shyt for him. I don't give a damn what he believes in or anyone else for that matter. When you come to me and try and convert me and get all pissy cause I'm trying to tell you how things are in Christianity is what bugs me. The Bible warns us of false prophets and commands us to not believe in anyone that comes and claims they're the second coming of Christ. He claims to be christian so I don't see how I'm out of line trying to tell him that what he's doing is leading people astray. Again I don't bring up the topic he does. Most of the time I nod my head and don't say shyt, despite how crazy it sounds. It's when he says I need to go to his church and that's the only way to learn is when I have to say something back.

To the bolded you can't say it's either all real or none of it's real. The bible is difficult to understand and it's easy for anyone to misinterpret it's teachings. If you want to say your christian than follow christian doctrine. Otherwise call yourself something else and don't get under the christian umbrella. If this church was called the church of some Korean guy, no one would follow it. Because it claims to be a christian church people are being mislead and kept from the truth. All of this is correct providing you believe in the christian god and are of faith. If someone think it's all dumb silly shyt then than I can see why someone would believe it's all the same and different branchings don't matter, it's all one big pile of crap to that person. If you do believe, then you can I understand why it would bother me for someone to twist the bible and have it mean something that it isn't supposed to be.

As far as believing in a talking snake, don't know where I said that.

Oh my bad. Well there's a story about a serpent who convinces this woman to eat of a forbidden fruit. I thought that was in the beginning of the Bible.

I am a Christian becuase I was brainwashed at a very tender age and no matter how hard I try to shake it, I am scared of G-d and Jesus catching me in the parking lot one day and individually torturing my every molecule for eternity.

I tried to reject it all, but that didn't feel right. Then the funny part came in where I tried to accept some things but reject others. "Okay so this one guy can walk on water. I believe that. But this other guy definitely did NOT find a golden book in the desert. No sir! That's where I draw the line!".

If you REALLY think about it, once you can seriously consider any of the fantastic stuff in the Bible true, how can you go back and deny the Scientologists, Mormons, Muslims, or Krsnas any of their beliefs? Why is a talking bush so much more reasonable than a djinn?

The reason I say it's all true is becuase I do believe there is somethign mysterious going on. If the Universe itself can pop into existence out of nothing and something as complex as DNA can form spontaneously from mud, then why not all the other stuff? I just can't sit here with a straight face and draw some kind of line between my myths and theirs.

I struggle with religious thoughts and doubts as well. There is definitely something more to the universe then meets the eye, is it God, Allah, karma I don't know and if someone thinks different that's cool. It's just if they're manipulating and twisting the words of the bible to tell me I'm doing it wrong, then I have a problem an can debate it in the context of the bible. I identify with the bible and Christianity more than anything probably cause I was born into that. I did actually stop believing in God because of the strictness some of the people tried to impose on me. Then things happened in my life that made me start wondering and now I'm sure something exist. The bible and belief in the Christian God helps me make it through my struggles and gives me peace. If it's bullshyt I don't really care it's what I like and what helps me. I look at the bible as a manual for basic living. While it goes to extremes to prove it's points, a lot of the things are for good reason that can be explained rationally but I think some people need an extra something not to do stupid things. The things that don't make sense I research and try and give meaning too. Like the serpent in the garden. I'd go and try and see what the serpent represents in the bible and try and figure out the moral of that story.

Anyways thanks for your post and I guess I'm not going to speak about religion with my friend anymore. It's just he keeps fishing for a debate but I need my ride to work :russ:. I tried telling him but whatever.

I'm posting this in higher learning to avoid this thread turning into some twisted version of me sharing that girl.

My co-worker is real religious and I always thought he was a christian with real fundamental beliefs. He knows a lot about the bible and had been asking me to go to his church for a bible study. I finally said "sure I'll check it out."

Yesterday I go and the guy leading the study pulled off some cool tricks using the bible to support his arguments and said some things that made me go :gladbron::krs:. I was really interested in this new perspective that was being taken on the bible. Then today I googled the church and found out it was a cult and what their end game was. At the study they didn't tell me everything and just covered a small portion of their beliefs.

Apparently his church worships some Korean dead guy and his wife who is still alive. They believe this man is the second coming of Christ, and that the bible talks of a God The Mother, Korean dudes wifey, who they worship and sing praise to.

What should I do? Come through and crush the buildings tell him everything he believes is a lie and he's been wasting his life. Or just ignore the talk and make up reasons why I can never go back to his blasphemous church? I car pool with the guy and rely on him for rides to work everyday.

Believing in God is stupid and retarded I know, I know but can you guys save those comments and talk about this specific situation. Heres a link to the church and a website debunking it entirely.

Confessional's Bytes: Answering the World Mission Society Church of God

For real, Shark... this kind of hits home for me. I wish I could really put all my thoughts into words... Religion is the worst kind of obsession, or addiction. You can't make him leave, when you try he's going to look at you like :smugfavre: and go even harder. Just tell him you can't mess with that church anymore, tell him why and keep it moving (Don't get into a religious debate. It's a waste of time). You can pray for him and his eyes to be opened, but you can't make him stop going.

I hate to even think about this. I just hope it works out.
