They got like a million followers , shouldnt being monetized not matter anymore? Like they should legit be funneling viewers to their own products + have sponsors who cut em checks. Or is my understanding of YT off?

Easier said than done. If you’re lucky maybe 20-30% of your following actually cares enough to follow you to the new platform (and that’s on the free tier, how many going there and giving you $10/month?) But that platform does not have the sponsors and ad revenue that YouTube does (think about it the reason they’re probably getting kicked off youtube is because YouTube’s ad partners don’t want them there). That new platform doesn’t have the infrastructure YouTube does (being able to livestream and have live chats and donations). That new platform doesn’t have the user base to help continue to grow and spread your content. While you will have some stable of followers you’ve still got to get new followers to replace the old ones. Eventually your content will become stale to someone. That 18 year old high school kid that once watched is now 19 in college and too busy to watch. 21 year old college student that once watched is now a 23 year old working adult. A decent amount of their viewers probably come from being on YouTube’s recommended pages or top live viewers pages. Take away that promotional vehicle and their numbers fall off drastically.

Will they be able to replicate that infrastructure on their own? That costs a lot of money to hire really talented people to support on the backend. Then how do they promote themselves? There’s a reason McDonald’s and Coca Cola still spend billions on advertising. YouTube provides an inherent promotion vehicle by putting you in peoples related and recent content, recommended, top lists, etc. Look at threads. We all knew ppl weren’t going to use that shyt long term after the initial hype died down.

One word ..TRAFFIC

These fools have tons of videos which have been watched millions of times

If they can drive even a fraction of that YouTube traffic to their own site.. that's a come up
Traffic=Ads=Revenue

Personally,I would use YouTube for Livestreams and posting short videos and snippets
But full length videos would only be uploaded on my site
Then I would add a discussion forum and go from there

It's not easy,but it's doable

Aba and Preach just said it as well. Said they are one of the top 3 revenues for superchats when they stream. With youtube removing the partnership, they can no longer get superchats(Fresh said that on the video).

URL Battle rap also made a shytload more money by making an app and stopped using youtube completely. They were getting millions of views, but getting paid very low. Especially when adpocalypse happened. I think it's rumored they make around 800k a month now with the app ($8 a month).

I've seen the super chats myself and the amount they make was insane. Easily $10k-$20k per show in superchats. You'll have 100s of people willing to spend 100s of dollars just to insult some bird on the show.
